Heres my first one
Pain of Salvation
(I let Rexton do Dream Theater as know he is as passionate as me about them)
Pain of Salvation are a Swedish band, the band name explores the link between the darkness of humanity and the light. The music can often be political in nature but also existential. Often exploring themes of love, war, lust, pollution
The main part of the band is Daniel Gildenlow who is guitarist singer song writer composser and producer.
The music itself is often intense but also often have moments of beauty The band uses both polyrythms and complex sychopated lines. Daniel voice is often emotional but sometimes moves into a coarse almost death metal growls to indicate either pain or anger.
The first 4 albums in my book are all classics

Remedy Lane

Remedy Lane is perhaps my favourite form this classic area but all of them are strong.
Both The Perfect element and Remedy lane recieved massive critical aclaim amongst the press and fans alike
The next album divided fans which has been a continual theme on the forums ever since this album
Be Is a conceptual work looking at evolution the nature of humanity existence and God. Its not as heavy as the first 4 albums and I would consider it a take on modern progressive music(sorry no offence meant)

The next album is Scarsick and this is starting to divide fans even more as it has a slight anti AMercian theme within it and because of the langauge used I think this is the bands most angry album, you can hear the bands frustration with Amercian policy and should be considered with what was going on in the middle east at the time

The last few albums have seen the band move in a more hard rock direction and caused even more revolt amonst fans but gained new fans
I see them a bit like Rush that the band will explore different themes and when they move on some fans will follow some will not and they will gain new fans who do not really know about their past
A good live band I seen them many times but missed them when they recently supported Opeth
