I have some canvas prints that I'd like to hang, but ideally I don't want to be drilling holes in my (plasterboard) walls.

Anyone got any tips for hanging pictures? These prints are 60cm by 40cm and are fairly light in weight.

Edit: Prints are only around 3lb in weight

Well you are going to have to put a hole in your wall of some sort. Picture hooks are usually nailed into the plaster. If you use any sort of adhesive tab - it will fall off eventually(this I guarantee).

a 1.5-2.0mm picture hook pin hole is hardly gonna mess your boards up

Yes, dumb of me, I realise I'll need to make a hole but my aim is for it to be as small as possible, ie pin sized.

My next question was going to about those adhesive hook things that claim to come off without leaving a mark.

You're right, but the fittings that came with the prints have 5mm screws which will require a 7mm raw plug. That's a big hole and quite unnecessary I feel.

Seems a bit excessive!

Unless you want to risk the picture falling off & breaking i'd go with the pin hole tbh.

Like these? .....

The prints are 3lb 3oz in the box, so not very heavy.

Yes if you feel it is an heavy picture you can get double pin version.

These are wider at the end if you can take that into account if the frames have inbuilt hangers, if it's picture frame chord dont worry.Doubles are around 8mm at the widest part of the hook.

Ideally try to find the hangers with two or three nails/pins like this: ' Super hangers'

Ok, thanks guys. I know it's a bit of a dumb question but before I fix anything into these walls I like to make sure I'm using the correct fixings.

Now, if I'm hanging with the long side (60cm length) at the top, do you recommend I use 2 hooks and sawtooth grippers on the canvas? Or will one do?

I think people underestimate how much those picture hooks will hold! The pin doesnt enter the wall straight on it nails in at an angle firing down hence will hold the weight without pulling out, personally id just use one double hook, using two single hooks is a recipie for disaster lining the picture up.

Good point. There's nothing attached to the frame of the canvas but I guess I could just hook it onto the edge of the wood, or cut a little groove or something yeah?

You want a proper hanger dead centre on the back Lee, if it's possible to fix 'D' hangers id go with that being double picture hooks, if just a single picture hook (which are smaller) the saw tooth hangers you mentioned

+1 on the wall hooks and pins - they are stronger than they look.
For the frame, if you cannot get proper D hangers as Andre recommended, a small screw will do at a push if ir's facing out the back.
If the frame is open backed, O-ring headed screws will work screwed inside the frame. Hangers, hooks and rings used to be in the 1 pound shops in transparent boxes from memory....

There is an alternative to nailing hooks in the wall, but it requires a little more work.

A picture rail:

.........& picture rail hooks:

Plus all sorts of ideas here (http://www.picturehanging.co.uk/)

Of course thats the proper way but with the mention of plasterboards i don't suspect Picture rails on the walls..
