Did anyone else see Scrapheap Orchestra on BBC4 tonight?

What a brilliant programme

Instrument makers had to make orchestral instruments from rubbish for the BBC Concert Orchestra to play the 1812 Ov. at a Prom concert.

It's what iPlayer was made for ....

:stalks:

Ah, well - it was worth pointing out (maybe). Seeing the BBC Concert Orchestra violinists coming to grips with an instrument made out of a toilet waste pipe was quite funny. :violin:

The amazing thing was that the performance, though tonally quite "interesting", was actually not a joke.

Ah, OK - I think there was a bit about it on the BBC radio4 news programme last week. It did sound vaguely curious.

Only through my laptop but the performance sounded rather good - certainly far better than it ought to!

The fire extinguisher powered cannons were a nice idea :). And I thought the wind instruments with their keys made from bent spoons etc were pretty fantastic too.

It's the sort of programme that's probably under threat from the BBC budget cuts unfortunately - too quirky with a very niche audience. :(

I've noticed there are pictures from this programme on the Gramophone (http://www.gramophone.co.uk/features/gallery/bbc-four-presents-scrapheap-orchestra) website . .
