View Full Version : Caddock resistors: What do the numbers signify?

I am attempting to source some components for an impecunious friend who has neither PayPal or an internet connection.

These will make up a passive control unit that said friend will assemble. I'm currently (as I type) listening to the prototype.

I think that the correct terminology is fixed series, variable shunt volume control.

I'm after two Caddock TF020R 2.5K resistors. Think I've found some.

Attached are two images of Caddock Tf020 resistors. I don't know the values. The 2.5K resistors in the prototype have 9750 on them

I'm curious. More insight from all you more knowledgeable DIY'ers out there would be much appreciated

Does your friend know about Charcroft Z-foil's?

Ever cryptic Andre!

In my researches I did discover that Vishay make a z-foil resistor.

Guess this is a variant or similar?

Are they expensive or difficult to obtain?

Thats em but only 2K2 & 2K7..As they are 0.1% tolorence i'm not sure how you stand wanting 2K5!

Thanks for the link Ali. I've been enjoying Microphonic speaker cable on your recommendation. Is it still available?

Any views on relative sound qualities of Caddock and Charcroft resistors?

I've not tried the Charcrofts, though I've read good things about them.

As for the cable, it doesn't seem to be on ebay anymore. Are you looking for more? I have some lengths.

Only Caddocks ive used are the 'MP-930' power resistors they were superb..I used to think the Vishay 'VSRJ' were the best bulk metal foil resistors ive ever heard.But im kinda in love with the Takman Carbon Film Resistors im presently using in my amp!

I've used the Charcroft Z-foils for cartridge loading and found them to be excellent. Ive also used the Shinkoh resistors and been pleased with them

Ali, I'll quite happily buy whatever cable you have to spare. 2 x 3m lengths would be ideal.
