Technics sp10

Heresy here I know but...Having recently acquired an lp12 I think it is time to move my sp10 on. I'll probably regret it but fancy living with a belt drive for a while. I've just had it recapped (cost £80) and it has improved the sound another notch. I don't have the box but will pack securely. It doesn't have a plinth as I have been using the piece of ply in the pics below with a hole cut for a rega arm. I also like the sound with the deck sitting directly on the rack so have never felt the need to get a plinth.

Looking for £500 plus postage given the recent service. This does not include the arm. I wold include the arm for £200- it's an origin live fully modded OL1. Again I don't have a box for it as it came with another deck that i previously had. I won't sell the arm separately until the deck is sold.

KEEP the SP10 stored away for a while, while you have some fun with the fruitbox and sell the tonearm - the Techie deserves better and less resonant arms in my honest opinion...

LP12's are readily available, SP10's are not, so if yours has been serviced and is running well, only the plinth, arm and mat will dictate its qualities IMO and I think you could go way further than a Herbies with these...

The Lp12 is a fun and highly "characterful" product that will entertain you once PROPERLY set up, but you will definitely get Linn's version of what is there on the record. Only a Keel or third party cheaper equivalent like a Rubykon will bring you close to what a "sorted" SP10 can do - IMO

Is there any way at all that you can keep the SP10 for several months more? If not, I'll tap up HiFi Dave to see if he wants it for his rather wonderful vintage museum :lol:

I buy my 401 and Scoobs then puts his PL50L up for sale which I'd have bitten his hand off for.

I buy my 1210 and now Mike's put up his SP10 for sale - would look lovely in one of Russ's plinths.

Good luck with the sale Mike - although has Dave said, I'd keep something like this for a rainy day. Just wish I had 500 notes burning a hole in my pocket.

Hi. I have agonised long and hard about this however I can only justify keeping one deck and as the lp12 was a present from my wife I think it has to stay. I have also been using DD decks for a few ears now so keen to love with a belt drive for a while. I will probably regret it in the long term but that's life.

IMHO, I would only send by courier if you have the transport plate to protect the bearing. At the least don't send it with the platter in place.

Are you ok with LP12 fettling? It's mostly common sense in all honesty, but exit cable dressing and proper sorting/shaping of the P clip is vital to the sonics I found (and was shown by Jimmy Hughes some decades ago). Mind you, Linn may well supply the "T" cable clamping arrangement now, which worked well IMO. I liked the T cable on the Linn - brought some "humanity" back into the rather clanky (IMO) Ekos delivery when fitted to a Cirkus.
