I thought this thread would be a good idea for anyone wishing to seek out new bands and their music. A sort of rough guide if you like.
Hopefully others will add their own musical preferences to this thread.
This is not meant to be a definitive guide but a brief introduction and guide to their music for anyone wishing to dip into a particular band or genre of music.
Ok so here is my introduction to Queen : (the early years)
These are my own personal musings and opinions. No doubt some will disagree. But it’s better than copy and pasting the info from Wikipedia…!
Queen I – 1973. Uk charts #24. Biggest hit – Keep yourself alive/ Liar. Recommended – My fairy king.
A great debut rock album and a perfect introduction to the type of music Queen were to be famed for. I can remember seeing the promo video on the ‘old grey whistle test’ put together by the engineers as no video's existed and the band couldn’t make it. An excellent and often overlooked first album. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to start out with but its definatly worth checking out. I would also recommend it for the more deserning listener who appreciates good rock music with a dollop of sophistication.

Queen II – 1974. UK chart #5. Biggest hit – Seven seas of Rhye. Recommended – March of the black queen.
To most hard core Queen fans this is the best album they have ever made. Freddie Mercury’s writing skills and imagination are rampant on this album. Defiantly the one I’d recommend if you were to commit to buying only one Queen offering. This was in the shops when I first saw them in concert. Happy days.

Sheer heart attack – 1974. UK chart # 2. Biggest hit – Killer Queen/ Now I’m here. Recommended – Brighton rock.
Again as far as I’m concerned a great album and Queen still at their creative peak. First of their albums to enter the US charts.

A built-in remedy for Khrushchev and Kennedy
At anytime an invitation you can't decline.

A night at the opera – 1975. UK chart # 1 Biggest hit – Bohemian Rhapsody. Recommended – The prophets song.
Normally voted the most popular Queen album. I suspect mostly due to the success of Bohemian Rhapsody than anything else. Still a great album made with a massive budget (at the time) resulting in a much more polished affair. I was lucky enough to see them at the free Hyde park concert during this time. If I remember correctly also preforming were - Steve Hillage, Supercharge and the Fatback Band.

My biggest wish is that someone would release the 1975 Rainbow Christmas album on 180g vinyl. Please, please, please...:drool:
