Can anyone provide a good traditional English Wassil recipe? Preferably with alcohol!

Sorry, what is Wassil? Never heard of it - but then again, I'm not English....

Could always add extra alcohol of one's choice.

Ah, I've seen that before, but didn't recognise it as "wassil"... Now, if you'd asked for a 'hot toddy'! ;)

Ah, I see they used a slow cooker to do it in :) Cool, I have one of those.. Crock pot indeed

Aye, and it tastes much better than yon Wassail pish (mulled wine, using cider, under a schoopit name)! :eyebrows:

"Yon wassil pish" and you're not English?... OK, so what's this killer recipe for hot toddy?
And thanks Preston, it sounds great and I'll definitely make one of the two.

Best,
Barry

The recipe for the drink varies around the country - but it's mostly a West Country/Sussex and Kent thing really. Not always cider, sometimes ale or mead but always served from a big bowl.
It's a tradition from the 1600's:

Go to the orchards on 12th night to protect the trees from evil spirits and scare them away so there would be a good crop the following year.
Some of the drink is poured over the roots of a tree while singing the wassailing song, making as much extra spirit scaring noise as possible.
Then while the noise is still going on, you'd place a piece of toast soaked in the drink into a fork in the tree. The bread is to nourish to good spirits
Next, everyone would drink a toast to the tree.

Repeat the final step as often as is needed to be sure the spirits are well and truly scared off!
