I'm now going hell for leather (well, in a gentle fashion) on my Tecchy so my lovely old PL-71 is now for sale.

It's not in mint condition - it has a couple of 'nicks' on the plinth, the badge is missing off the front and there are the odd scratches on the lid (which has no splits/cracks) but everything works absolutely fine on it and it sounds tremendous.

The clincher here though is the arm - the one presently fitted to the deck is brand new. It came to me in its original box just 3 or so weeks ago, never having been fitted to a turntable before, and is in factory-fresh condition.

Included will be the turntable's original arm (shown at on the box in the picture) which has been re-wired with a Cardas plug/socket at the base and been modded by Johnnie at Audio Origami so it fits under the plinth without fouling the shelf underneath. Only downside is that the arm itself has an internal earthing issue which would need addressing - I meant to send the arm off to J7 for a full re-wire but never got round to it (Johnnie just did the external cable for me). However, it would be a good source of parts for the new one - perhaps even transfer the Cardas arrangement to the new one.

Price? I'm asking £275 for the lot and will include a Sumiko HS-12 headshell for this. I'm not happy about posting the 71 as I don't have a suitable box for it so would much prefer local pick up (we're 3 miles north of Sleaford, Lincs) or I'd meet up within a 50 mile radius of home for a tenner's worth of fuel.

A few piccies...

Hi Richard,

Can you tell me where you got the cable from? AO? How much was it?

Hi Richard,

Hi Bernie - Johnnie made the cable up, it's a length of Van Damme silver-plated copper (about 1m I think). He just modified the Cardas socket on the end, making shorter, so it would fit under the turntable - a std Cardas plug/socket is too long and fouls the shelf underneath.

Can't really say how much the cable was as it was done along with some other stuff - sorry!

Should be. It's lower caste sibling that Rega once used (these arms were all made by a small handful of manufacturers in Japan anyway), is superb once sorted..

Jerry - the 71's arm and the 103 are a proper Dream Team in my experience. Also great with an SPU and it'll show what a Decca can do too. :)
