HTC Sensation XL

About a month ago I got myself a new phone, the new HTC Sensation XL, I'd done a bit of research, drawn up a list of things i wanted my new phone to be able to do etc. anyway what initially caught my eye about this model was that it had been designed from the outset to be used as a portable music player, with tweaks to it's audio circuitry by Beats Audio no less, and a rather nice set of in ear headphones once again courtesy of Beats Audio

So the phone was delivered and works a treat, the headphones are great, a million times better than the crap you usually get with a phone or music player, however i have a couple of niggles, 1st off the music player knows when you have the beats audio headset plugged in and "supposedly" optimises it's eq settings, my problem is that it's just over the top bass, fine to demonstrate the range of the headphones, but unrealistic, now you can turn the optimisation off, but why do manufacturers seem to tailor the sound this way? and secondly why give it only 16Gb of storage, that's just no use to anyone, you're either pissed off that you have no space for apps or pissed off that you're always having to plug in to your PC to get the tune you don't have on your phone, my solution was to get spotify premium, but that costs me £10 a month:steam::steam:

I've just ordered one myself - I have an 8GB card in my LG-P500 Android phone, and it's not a lot space for AAC files @ 320kbps.
I don't use the phone with earphones - I hook it up to my car stereo, and it sounds fantastic. Today I have been playing Deep Purple's "Made In Japan" far too loud while I have been driving :eyebrows:

like the iphone the Sensation XL doesn't have a micro SD slot, so i'm stuck

Didn't check out the HTC Sensation, and just assumed that it was down to a microSD card, as it is on the HTC Desire :doh:

You should have stuck with the basic Sensation then, I've just got mine, smaller than the XL, 1.2 ghz duo core chip, and I've just whacked in my 32Gb micro sdhc card...Oh and as for 'beats audio' (it's a chonky DSP and some over priced branded shit headphones) Dr Dre can feck off, I doubt the lad's got a phd in electronics myself...I'm sticking with poweramp (gapless & proper album/track ReplayGain with preamp), no DSP, FLAC and my sennheisers. ;)

Are you sure there's no SD card on the XL, if not why did you go for it?:scratch:

Edit; Just checked, and it doesn't have an SD card slot, so you're stuck with 16Gb...the 64Gb cards are due out soon :)

I went for the Sensation as it shares the same Texas Instruments DAC as the XE and the XL, but it's cheaper and smaller, and I don't really need 1.5ghz, but I do need an SD slot, as with android 2.2 onwards one can move most of one's apps to the SD card leaving more on-board storage for the phone to use.

In terms of sound quality it beats (no pun intended) my old desire, and that was pretty good. :)

P.S. If you have a sensation (of any kind) get one of these, gives it a longer battery life than the Desire, the standard one's a little weak

Works very nicely too, I'd advise getting a micro USB adapter in order to fill it up, as putting 32Gb via the phone takes ages, via an adapter it's under an hour, just plonk it into the music directory on the card, it'll even handle nested directories under that, FLAC, MP3 etc. if you have Data OCD like me.

Just make sure you dismount the SD card first ;)

I wonder why they went for on board storage for the XE (4gb), and XL (16gb), memory speed perhaps? Or simplicity? :scratch:

It seems odd to have 2/3 different architectures across 1 phone type...

I'd thoroughly recommend the 'Anker' [sic] battery, it's boosted my battery life by about 50%...

...fitted to my HTC Sensation and works a treat, much quicker than the 32Gb it replaced.

N.B. Don't format it with windows, as it will format it to exFAT, which the HTC doesn't seem to recognise.

...time to load another 30Gb of FLAC :eyebrows:
