Hello fellow forum users.
I found this site while I was searching for some information last week and so thought I'd join.
My name is Steve and I live in South Oxfordshire.
Faithful reproduction of music has long been a passion of mine, firstly through car audio (respecting the limitations of achieving great sound in a moving metal box) and more recently at home
I've ripped all of my CDs (approx 600) to FLAC and listen via Squeezebox and Cambridge Audio DAC through Bryston Pre-Power combo and Proac speakers. I only recently got the Brystons, upgrading from Audiolab and cannot believe how much more transparent music appears to be. With the law of diminishing returns, I guess I'll not be able to get much further with the amps, so probably looking at how to improve the music server / DAC, and possibly the speakers.
Music wise, just about anything - used to be in an orchestra so classical, jazz, pop, rock, country.
Especially like guitar accoustic music.
Steve

Hello and welcome...
I share your love of guitar music, especially acoustic with a passion of mine being Acoustic Alchemy and Paco De Lucia.
I am sure you will be made very welcome here on the forum and hope that your time here will be very long.

Hi Steve,

Welcome from another Squeezebox user

I have 6 of 'em ranging from an old SB3 through to a couple of Radios via a Boom, Receiver and a Transporter. So not many rooms are without music .. ..

You'll find many varying views around here - from those like us who find music servers liberating, to those for whom streaming music is the work of the devil :D

Enjoy yourself :)

Cheers,
Bob

Hi Steve, welcome to AoS from me to :) Take it from me that you'll get a much more lifelike representation from speakers in a house than ones in a car ;)

Cabin gain (room gain in a house) at low frequencies in a car is pretty astronomical, at home you might think you have weak bass & at certain frequencies boomy.

You just didn't have the dimensions in a car to set up standing waves in the deep bass region, in a house you do

I hope you enjoy your stay here... Bests to you!

Hi Steve, welcome from me too. Having recently finished doing 2.5K albums to FLAC, I still wake up in the night fumbling for the next CD... :eyebrows: Not an experience either of us would want to repeat I suspect, so I hope you have a decent backup policy! ;)

Hoep you enjoy AoS - your system sounds nice, and some good music tastes, too. :)

(Wasn't my pyjamas - I did wonder why I kept getting slapped by the missus though!)
