Picked up and AKAI GX-65 the other day for the princely sum of €30. I've got no tapes to put in the thing, but the wife has. So it will be put to some use. Fantastic condition, not a mark on it.
Anybody ever have one?

WOW. Just googled some pics. No experience I'm afraid but looks a great machine and 3 head too. Congratulations on a bargain. Akai were very good machines especialy the heads so should give good sound even if not Nakamichi standard.

Used to sell them years ago along with Aiwa and Nak tape decks, the Nak's and Akai's were the best, though the top Aiwa was pretty good but reliability was poor on Aiwa generally.
My fave Akai was the G95. Excellent quality heads being made from glass.

Was playing some Doors through it last night, quallity of that recording is not great, but the Akai still managed to shine. I am surprised by the condition of this thing, it is prestine. I must get a couple of pics of it in situ.
Got some new kit now that will be distracting me however...

The only Akai Cassette Deck ive owned was a very grand GXC 570D, sounded very good & was very reliable. As you can see by the video the Black perspex control cover was a work of art in action over 20 years older than the one you have tho..
