Hi,
Having only recently fitted a Denon DL-103 cartridge & a Sumiko headshell to my Technics SL1210 TT I have been following the posts/threads here on AOS & I'm now interested in upgrading my tonearm.
The Jelco tonearms seem to be mentioned quite a lot on AOS, so please can you advise me as to which arms I might look at & which mounting plates.
As already stated I'm pretty new to TT's & vinyl, so any advice here is MORE than welcome.
At the moment my budget is £0 - £500 & I'm more than willing to buy used items in vg condition from AOS members.
Cheers,
willie G
Hi Willie,
With a DL-103, at the price-point mentioned, it quite simply has to be a Jelco SA-750D. I used that combination myself for years, with great success - quite frankly, it's a marriage made in heaven!
Our very own David Brook sells them (and the matching armboards): http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/tone-arms-headshells/98-jelco-sa-750d-tone-arm.html and you'll also get an AoS discount of 10% off of that price :)
Obviously check first that you can't get one in good nick being sold here by any members.
Then simply fit one of these spacers, to add the necessary extra mass to the Jelco headshell, which the Denon needs:

...and, trust me, you'll be smiling from ear to ear!
Marco.
Yep - Jelco 750D. A very underrated arm and perfect for the DL-103.

I don't even use a TT (I have a Rega Planar 2 in storage) so I don't know why I'm even reading this thread, but, I have to say this advice appeals to me.
Given a price point and current spec, one is given a choice of one tone arm. Fantastic. I hate being bewildered by options I do.
I hope Willie takes that path and enjoys his newfound bug. :)

Ok then. Your one choice is to: buy a turntable.
