I will be collecting a Luxman PD-272 next weekend, and it may need a new Cart Stylus, It currently has a Stanton 681EEE cart. I was going to do a Lenco project, but seem to be drawn towards DD Jap 70's/80's stuff, and lusted after this one when it was for sale earlier in the year.

I gather I need a High Compliance cartridge with high output? This TT aparently can suffer from Hum, so low output MC carts are not generally recommended although some have worked well.
I previously used an Ortofon 2M Red on a Michell Focus Unipivot arm, another lightweight arm, and that did ok, the 2m carts are relativey high compliant?

Not sure, bit out of my depth with cart/arm matching.

some specs/info here-

The arm is a Micro Seiki designed luxman TA-1-
Effective Length - 240mm
Overhang - 15mm
Cartridge Weight - 4g - 11g
Cartridge Height - 13.5mm - 20.5mm
Stylus Pressure - 0-3g

~£50ish budget, MM or MC (although guessing i wont get one in the budget).
Any ideas? (dont mind second hand/used)

Cheers, I used the 2M Red on a Michell Focus One/Focus Arm which did ok, would have to be second hand, it was £60 when i bought it new a few years back, they are around £80 now!
The Nagaoka MP100 is on budget (new), much difference between that and the MP110?

I found that the 2M Red had a slightly bright tendency, how does the MP100 compare?

The J.A Michell 'Focus S' was the last working turntable i used (very underrated deck) i used it with the 'Focus' arm, Mayware 'Formula 4' & Mission '774' (Original) (Yes i was a low mass fiend) :eyebrows: I used Nagaoka 'MP11' standard & later MP11 'Boron with all no probs at all.Sounded great.

I removed the 'Focus' springy feet by unscrewing the foot off (leaving the threaded leg), bought a set of Gyro conical feet which screwed on to the legs to replaced them. ;)

Yep the Focus was a lovely deck, my old one (not the 'S' model)

I think the Nagaoka MP100 might be the way forward. :)

Hi Rob,

The MP100 is a spherical, and good by all accounts.

l find the Nag110, very smooth and refined, it is very well behaved, tracks well and is kind to surface noise, l prefered it to a Stanton 681EEE l had which was around the same price, both carts wre on a tweaked SL1200 MK2 and with the stock arm, hope this helps.

Ok thanks, I am leaning towards the MP100, I can quite stretch towards a MP110 but i would guess they have a similar character?

I have never heard of a Focus turntable, but I must say that that is one beautiful turntable. Care to sell it...:eyebrows:
