Calling all Mac users with Airport Extreme Base Stations

Gents.

Has anyone discovered that a recent firmware upgrade to their Airport Extreme has screwed their wireless connection and file transfer speeds?

I didn't notice immediately, but after a firmware upgrade to 7.6.0 my wireless speed drop drastically and file transfers because tragically slow.

Network Utility was showing a connection speed of 144Mbit/s even though I'm only 15 ft from the base station.

I rolled back to 7.4.2 and it's back up to 270Mbit/s and file transfers seem fine again.

no, can’t confirm this. I performed the firmware update last week, and although my wireless network in theory should be error-prone, connection speed is quite good and there are no dropouts. There’s a mix of Airport devices with different speeds in my home (three Airport Express stations with 802.11g, two Airport Extreme base stations and one Airport Express station all with 802.11n), but so far everything works flawlessly. I even have the impression that file transfers feel a bit faster since the last firmware update.

Well for me the update completely screwed file transfer speeds. I mean files that should have taken moments (like a 30Mb application) were taking many minutes.

It was basically unusable. I couldn't even use Audirvana as the files were taking so long to buffer to RAM!

Have rolled back to 7.4.2 and all is fine again.

Now I know that this fixes it, I may try reinstalling 7.6 again and see if the same thing happens again.

I think mine triggered an automatic update, so I'm now on 7.6. However, I only use it for airtunes (now named Airplay) use. Besides, I'm on Sky so I only have a g rated (54mbps) router.

By the way, if you hold the alt key while clicking on the Airport menu bar icon you'll see some more info.

Edit: Doh! :doh: I'm using an Express, not an Extreme. Sorry.

Not noticed any differences in transfer speeds either over wireless or wired connections.

What has changed is my wired connection to my Squeezebox Touch from the Mac Mini. I'm using SoundCheck's TT3.0 mods and before the Airport Extreme update I had to settle for a buffer level of around 5000 maximum or things started sounding sterile and the digital glare set in. Since the upgrade I've been able to wind the buffer right down and it's sounding sweet.

It's when stuff like this happens you really do realise that the bits is bits brigade are plain wrong!

Have done some rummaging on the Apple support forums had found may disgruntled Airport Extreme owners who have suffered exactly the same as me (or worse) when upgrading to 7.6 firmware.

Some on the other hand are fine but it seems to be connected to how new your AE is - mine was bought s/h so not all that current.
