I have been a member for a couple of months so thought it about time to introduce myself.

I have been interested in music for the best part of 40 years and have had the hifi bug for most of that time.

I bought my first system as a student at Leeds Uni in the early 80's when I was studying Chemistry - a Dual CS504/Nagoaka MP11, Marantz PM310 and some AR 18S speakers. I thought that system was brilliant and I love playing music on it, I upgraded the amp and turntable over time until marriage and children called a halt. I still listened to music but didn't have the space for the hifi.

Since the children got older and a bigger house came along I have chopped and changed components quite a bit, experimenting with brands I couldn't previously afford and also different technologies. I have two fairly settled systems now, one in a dedicated listening room and one in a bedroom come office. The main system has two turntables LP12/Ekos/Troika and a slate plinth Lenco/SME312S/Benz Wood, an Avondale Audio modded Naim CD3, Squeezbox Touch/Beresford Caiman all though Quad 77 pre and 306 power into refurbed Quad ESL63 speakers - the 306 is likely to be replaced with a 909 when I get round to it!
Upstairs I have a Systemdek/Akito/K9 and a Marantz CD6000se through a valve pre and 300b SE power amp into some Focal 907be speakers. Oh and I have a big AV system too - told you I have the 'hifi bug'!

Music wise there is very little I can't listen to but am always on the look out for new stuff - currently playing Phantom limb which I downloaded from the NAIM website - highly recommended.

Thanks for reading - L

Hi Laurence, welcome to AoS :) Nice introduction & some rather nice kit to I might add, any chance of getting some pictures up in the gallery at some stage?

We all like a good drool over some tasty kit & most are partial to slate plinthed Lencos :eyebrows:

All the best to you & I hope you enjoy your stay here

Welcome to AoS, Laurence. Nice to have a turntable choice; how would you characterise their relative sound?

Well all 3 are good but in order of overall ability I would go Lenco - LP12 - Systemdek.
Whilst I have never actually had the Systemdek in the main Hifi I am really pleased with it generally and I don't feel it is embarrassed by the Linn or the Lenco. I have it powered from a spare Linn Valhalla board with the voltage turned down which made a big improvement on the original power supply.
The Lenco has really good bass and 'attack' but the Linn is very melodic and easy to just listen too. The Linn has a home made Armageddon clone power supply which probably still needs fine tuning but I vary between the two more on my mood than on music type - they are both good but different with the edge just going to the Lenco.
