Hello all,
I'm Martin and I'm from South West London.
I stumbled across this forum whilst trying to work out what the hell a DAC is and does; so I directly hold you all repsonsible for atleast some of my future expenditure (thanks guys!).
Current system is:
Sound card: ASUS Xonar Essence ST
Amp: Roksan Kandy K2
Speakers: Mordaunt-Short Avant 902i (pair)
Cables: Silver anniversary something or other
Headphones: Grado SR225i
I recently sold my Sony-STRDA2400ES to my brother and fancied an upgrade, so after a little research came across the Roksan Kandy K2; I've had it for a week and decided to do it proper, I'm going to return it and get the Caspian M2 and get the book shelf speakers to match (K2 TR5's), oh yeah and the Audiolad M-dac.
I've decided to join because from what I've read, the community seem sound (see what I did there) and it would be great to learn some more about what I'm giving myself with tinnitus with; nice to meet you all!

Evening mate and thank you.
BTW, I've browsed some subjects and can see a lot's been touched on before, what is the etiquette here, am I expected to contribute to older threads or is it okay to start anew?
Thanks.

Hi Martin & welcome to AoS from me.
It's fine to revive old threads but it's also good to start new ones. Even if the subject has been covered ad nauseum, we're generally good natured enough to take part in the discussion. Some of us might point out the previous threads to you or invite you to use the search facility!
What sort of music do you like to listen to?
Cheers

Hi Wazoo,
That sounds like a fair system to me!
I'm really into Drum and Bass/Jungle but I have a pretty wide range of tastes; Indie, Rock, hip-hop etc.
As well as learning some things about (the art of) sound I hope to have my eyes opened to some great new music.

Hi Martin, a warm welcome to AoS from me to :) As you may have already gathered by the PM I replied to I also like D'n'B & Jungle, though I'm more into the ambient side of thigs these days :eyebrows: There are others on here to that also listen to it, but like myself they probably listen to just about everything else as well..
However I just added some more D'n'B to the collection today, it still gets spun a good bit ;)
I hope you enjoy your stay here, all the best to you

Nice one mate, what kind of chilled out stuff are you into; Paradox/Peshay?
What did you pick up, was it vinyl? Going cheap now, mp3's seem to be taking over :(

Just keep an eye on the thread "Spinning today - What are you listening to right now" (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14170) in musical compositions ;)
Chilled stuff would be anything from Fax +49-69/450464 (http://www.discogs.com/label/Fax+%2B49-69%2F450464), Biosphere (http://www.discogs.com/artist/Biosphere), Lustmord (http://www.discogs.com/artist/Lustmord), Robert Rich (http://www.discogs.com/artist/Robert+Rich), Ian Boddy (http://www.discogs.com/artist/Ian+Boddy) or Steve Roach (http://www.discogs.com/artist/Steve+Roach) just for starters :eyebrows:
Right now Big Bud - Producer 07 is on the go :) CD & DVD by the way...

Alright gents, pleasure to meet you.
Btw, do people chat much on here, is the general chat section any good?
The community seems a lot more friendly than what I'm used to on the Internet!
