Shut the 'F' up...

I remember back in 1983 I had a couple of very good friends named Keith Pitts and Pete Rushby who owned a Hi-Fi business called ‘Sound Perfection’ in Grimsby, Lincolnshire and during this time, we would arrange music sessions at Keith’s house. Now Keith’s house was a rather large Victorian terrace where he stored his Crimson Electric Monoblocks and preamp but also his KEF 105.4 speakers. I would supply my Logic DM101 and a shedload of vinyl and a whole host of rather long haired layabouts would chill to the likes of ‘The Wall’ and similar sounds whilst drinking lots of real ale.

I remember that back in those days, everyone would listen to the music without ever speaking a sound and would be so engrossed in the sound signature of the system and as said, the music itself that vocally, everyone simply shut up and listened. So why is it that nowadays everyone simply wants to talk…? Why do we not have some serious music sessions these days…? What is it with people in 2011…?

We would do the same in 73' Shaun .... but now, amazingly I have some buddies who we can do the same thing with ... The album will go on and if it captures the mood we will sit through the entire side with nary a murmour :) ... ,, In fact I can even do it with my son and some of his band mates .. If the music works for them they shut up and listen and enjoy ... :cool: ....

When I think about it though ... even in 73' there were not THAT many people who could do it ... we would often have round one or two non regular mates as it were .. and they just didn't get it ... I think in previous posts I posited the theory that there are not too many people around that actually do enjoy listening to music THAT much to the exclusion of all else ...

That's why most people put the TV (aghhh) on as soon as they get home rather than putting on some music and pouring themselves a scotch/beer/glass of wine/spliff ... ........ :lolsign: ....... If you are up for an all night listening sesh then you are welcome to come over to mine in sunny Scarborough one weekend whan I am back ...... complete with valves, tannoys and a few guitars ... .. that goes for anyone else here too .. :cool: ... ...

Yes indeed ... I'm not back in UK till' next year though .. so we'll keep it in mind .. I'll put a post on when I get back and see if we can round up a couple more bodies ..... I can sleep 2 or 3 and will put some grub on and coffee and bacon sarnies in the morning ... .. but it will be a sesh !! :cool: .......

I think people simply have difficulty in keeping their mouths shut! Fortunately my wife will sit and listen to whole CD's with me, without a murmur. So that's nice, as they say... When I were a wee lad of 17 with my Rega 3, NAD 3020 and Kef Codas, my friend and I would come home from the pub and listen in the dark, half cut, U2 banging out - bliss. Incidentally, the next most enjoyable time with hi-fi was (rather tediously I know) with Kans, Nait 1/LP12. Similar feelings of satisfaction to that Rega system. I wonder how that little set up would sound now?

I blame The X Factor and Simon Cowell myself, everythings got dumbed down except actually listening to good music by the very few of us still left who want to do so...Hmmmmm :steam::violin:

If they can't STFU during a listening session, they can GTFO. :lol: That's sacred time to me. Chatting is great. I love getting together with folks; but, don't piss me off during a listening session. It's either them or me. Either way, someone's getting up and leaving. If it's my house, I'm not going anywhere. ;)

I miss those days too.

I spent many a night sitting with mates into the wee small hours listening to music and chatting I miss that too. I learn't so much about music from these sessions.

:lolsign: yes as I recall from my youth a big part of the reason for those mammoth 'in total silence' listening sessions was the fact that everyone present was utterly wasted on very high quality cannabis resin. :)
