Newbie

I'm a newbie to this forum - not sure why I should waste time on the net, but why not? Music slipped a bit for me for about ten years as children took over, but the urge to listen to a decent sound never really left me so I outed the old and installed an Audiolab cdq, Nait XS and Neat Motive 3's into my lounge and the family's life. Bliss. All that high end stuff - can't afford it I'm afraid, I'm at my limit. I have noticed a bit of snobbery, erm, elsewhere, so I'm hoping that's not the case here. It's the music that drives me, not the kit. I just want to hear it as best I can, but that doesn't mean I don't like a little chat about kit and the old chestnut of vinyl vs. digital. Incidentally I finally gave up my Roksan Xerxes this year. Twas gorgeous in all respects, sounded absolutely fab having been refettled and a new Adikt fitted, but it just doesn't fit in to my life and lounge. So, a sad deprture but I can't hear the difference between it and the cdq. An emotional, rose tinted specs (ears?) view of music I think to stay with a TT, but a lovely sound nonetheless. So, some bizarre 80's vinyl if you fancy it- there's some awful stuff in there and some fab 12 inchers. And if there are any other like minded people in East Herts then let me know. I said I was at my limit - just bought a secondhand flatcap.... I wouldn't describe myself as a Naimie even though 3 lots have srved me very well, not really into criticising people's choice - I welcome the diversity of kit available and love hearing good set-ups when the chance arises. It just happens to suit my ear ( Rock/pop being a substantial part of my diet). Rattling on now aren't I? leave it at that for now.

I don't think you'll find much if any equipment snobbery here, like you say, it's all about the music ;) You do the best you can & people respect that, none of us are millionaires that I know of :eyebrows: :scratch:

By the way, I reckon my most formative years music wise were also the 80's so I'm sure I have some oddities knocking about as well :D

Warm welcome Ian! Appreciate your honesty and I don't really like criticizing other people's kit either (if they want some help, that's something else). Hope you have fun with the site as I have.

as I wondered where you'd buy a secondhand catflap from :lol:

Must have been spending too much time on another thread here with lots of cat pics . . .

I'm pleased to see you resurrected your Audiolab CD. I did much the same with my 8000A which is now on my office system.

Well thank-you. 'Flatcrap' I like to call it. I promised myself I wouldn't get suckered into any 'upgrading' ( I hate the word, so beloved of advertisers to make u want more). I like to buy something I'm happy with and simply keep it in order to get VFM from it. BUT, it's an old olive piece from '99 and was cheap so I thought i'd give it a go, purely out of interest, being rather sceptical about what it might do. There is the danger that one's expectations are set before he thing's turned on, of course. However, as much as I detest flowery words to describe sound, I find even more slam and attack in percussion, which I love, but, maybe a hint of fatigue. That or I was istening too damn loud. I'll keep it on for my next few listens then take it off. Purely in the interest of objective reasoning. Maybe I'll push the boat out and start a thread....

Indeed. And a local man who was already inside for an unrelated murder now found guilty of killing the old colonel. I will endeavour not to be shot! Quite an art round here; if I'm not dodging gunshot then it's marauding horses chasing a ginger dog ridden by drunken redcoats. Not the ginger dog being ridden, but the horses!! ( I couldn't be bothered to put it in the right order)

Hi Ian - no one criticizes other people's kit on here - well, not very often, anyway! ;) Different strokes for different folks and all that. Enjoy AoS. :)
