Recording Vinyl to Mac Book Pro

Tips/advise sort for recording vinyl to a Mac Book Pro.

Presumably? I need a USB type thang? to go between the Mac and the tape outputs of my amp?

Is something like the EMU 0204 USB (http://www.thomann.de/gb/emu_0204_usb.htm) or the Tascam US-122 Mk2 (http://www.thomann.de/gb/tascam_us122mk2.htm) suitable?

How much money would I need to spend to get good quality and what bit/sampling rates should I use?

I use the TASCAM US-144 MK 1 (http://www.thomann.de/gb/tascam_us144mk2.htm?sid=03a9ada2e8700ba6794333e6d6 2136ec), so I assume the 122 would work as well.

There are a few programs you can use for recording, I use Adobe Audition but you could try Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) which is free.

As to sampling rates etc. it depends how you are going to playback the files. If burning to CD you may as well stick with 16/44.1 as downsampling may sound worse.

If playing back straight from your mac, and have space, you may be better off recording at 24/96.

Remember to go to Utilities, Audio Midi Setup and change sampling rates as required.

Just had a nosey at the Tascam 144 trying to work out how it connects to the stereo

Do you have to use 2 leads with 1/4 jack plugs on one end and phono plugs on the other to connect to tape outs on amplifier.
