Wanted - Starter Gear

Hi all.
A friend's teenage son has suddenly been hit by the vinyl bug. She wants to get him a nice wee starter setup for Xmas and I've offered to help. The budget is up to £300 and we're looking for turntable, cartridge, amp and speakers. Anyone got any old kit that would fit the bill.
I was thinking along the lines of something like an old Pioneer or Dual turntable. Maybe even a more modern Rega or Pro-ject deck. They made noises towards getting a second hand DJ deck like a soundlab, but I reckon that could put the boy straight off the whole idea! I think vintage is the way to go and I'm sure he could end up with a nice sounding setup for the money.
Anyway, what have you? And any pointers or links would be highly appreciated.

I've got the perfect speakers for u, they are as new and I will take £100 posted.
They are delphonica vallhalla, I can't get anything on google but wait till tomorrow when I do u some pics and u will fall in love with them!

They are black stand mounts with a walnuty high gloss side cheeks and match black and walnut stands with a white bass mid and black soft dome tweeter.

Also have a small valve amp with 2phono inputs and an iPod dock
Also can do u a phono stage and some decent interconnects and speaker cables.

Will do everything for £200

Leaves u £100 for a turntable then :)

I've got a project debut III USB which has a built-in phono stage and USB output. It's played no more than 10 hours. Fully boxed in excellent condition £170 posted.
Goes a bit over the £300 with the above kit, but would make a lovely system by the sound of it.
