Owning the Micro 25 and 7R I'd never knock GC's gear but this entry fee is likely to be beyong my pocket for as long as I can see. If I did have this to spend though I'd certainly be listening to it or consideration.
For those who can afford it, fair play and invite me round !
I can’t help think Glenn Croft may have priced himself out of the very market sector that has supported his products with this new range.

I can’t help think Glenn Croft may have priced himself out of the very market sector that has supported his products with this new range.
He probably feels that he has amply catered for the budget end of the market but now wants a slice of the high-end aswell - good luck to him!
I demo'd a series 7 power amp last week and thought it was amazing value for money ...
Hi John,
I can’t help think Glenn Croft may have priced himself out of the very market sector that has supported his products with this new range.
I don't think that's the case at all. It's not as if he's abandoning his entry-level stuff. The new gear is simply an addition to the existing range, to cater for those looking for even better performance, at what in today's high-end market is still a very competitive price.
From experience, I can tell you that anything that Glenn builds for £2 or £3k will compete, sonically, with other amplifiers on the market at more than double that amount, such is the superb SPPV that Glenn's products deliver. Therefore, that fact should be taken into consideration before making the kind of judgements you have made.
Personally, I welcome the addition of the new range, as it pitches Croft products into the more serious end of the market, where Glenn will get the recognition he deserves as one of the best audio designers on the planet. So called 'high-end' manufacturers, producing overpriced 'badge-fi' for brand snobs, can look out! ;)
Julian is absolutely right - good luck to Glenn. I'm sure that the new range will be very successful!
Marco.
I suppose I overlooked his ongoing support for his earlier product range and yes, I also wish him the best of luck in his attempt to cater for those who can afford the more expensive products.
Don’t misunderstand me, I think his products are great and I hope as you say Marco, people will consider his kit in preference to many of the named brands.
I suppose my view has been in the past at least that Glenn Croft made quality amps in the affordable bracket but of course, there is no reason why he shouldn’t attempt to cater for a wider market ;)
I should add I would be interested in hearing the IntegratedR given I'm line stage only, at £1700 this is the price band where in the past i think Glenn has excelled.

Pretty sure Glen made some hi-end stuff in the past. I seem to remember an expensive OTL amp at the old Chesterfield show. It's just he is best known for the Micro pre and it's successors. That reminds me of the type of Hi-Fi show that would be more relevant these days. Small manufacturers, mostly valve/vinyl and everyone (almost) using Posselt Albatross speakers.

Glenn has always made 'affordable high-end' as well as the budget gear. When you open a Hi-Fi News or Stereophile and see pre's and power's at £20K or £30K a piece, you realise that even Glenn's high-end is reasonably priced.
The few Croft amps that I’ve heard have sounded very nice.
While its great people on AoS like his products, the defense of Glenn is reaching religious proportions and getting a bit silly imo.
I just mentioned that imo his main market has been (in my very limited knowledge........ phew, hard work this ) has been in the “more reasonably” priced amplifiers.
Good grief

The new Croft range sound absolutely fabulous through the Gatorized Caiman. Glenn even bought one off me to try out for himself after hearing a Croft/Caiman combination at a mutual friend's place. Whilst the prices are high on hos new range, how much should one charge for something that is hand built and individually tested over a period of time? A comparable mass produced Chinese amp would still cost a lot of money.
You’re doing it wrong Stan
Dac before amplifier mate. Feck knows what you were listening to but it wasn’t your Dac in that configuration :lolsign:
(Okay, okay, I'll get my coat. I'm just not taking this seriously enough am I)
I think it's tremendous that one bloke's range goes from £350 for the 25 Basic pre to £2800 for the two box affair. Something for everybody there. I really like that and I think it's a great achievement.
I'm new to Croft gear and my devotion isn't ott I hope but it's really great stuff. The proof's in the pud' and the entry fee I feel.

You should have heard the Bushmaster with its zero capacitors in the audio path through one of Glenn's new amps. The floor boards need renailing after
that session .
One can only imagine how good Glenns amps would sound with a decent Dac then :eyebrows:
Look, before I get sent behind the sofa, Stan is making himself fair game here. If he didn’t try to ally his product with another manufacturer he wouldn’t pull so many foot shots and I just cant help but tear the arse out of it :ner::lolsign:

I have been testing my DACs with all sorts of amps for years, and I am in no way turned off by your accusation that I am trying to ally my products with Croft. Glenn himself was more than happy and satisfied to buy a DAC off me, and the same goes for many satisfied Naim and Linn owners, who no doubt could have afforded a DAC far more expensive.
Contrary to your personal believes, I make an outstanding product with worldwide sales.
Now, what have you made that comes anywhere close in respect and sales to my DAC? Just say that you are jealous of my success, and I'll quite understand what it feels like;).
I am not only jealous of your success Stan but also of your deft comedic touch and sure feel for a devastating repost!
Or not.....
I was told that the only reason Glen offered the micro basic at £350 (now £400) was because he is evangelical about people hearing what valve amplification can do and wanted to offer a valve pre-amp that anyone could afford. I was also advised that the margin on it is tiny to the point it is hardly worth his dealers selling it.

Correct but some of us like to make good equipment available to our customers at sensible prices. Not all of us are Investment Bankers.:eyebrows:
