Soliciting Input/Advice on Technics Upgrade Path

Hello all. I have a SL1200 Mk II ready to be made better. :)

Before bringing up my questions, I thought I should read the SL1200 topics on Analog Art, including “New Solid Aluminum Platter for the SL1200.” Was there a resolution to the concerns :doh: about how the heavier Mike New platter may affect the motor's ability to make the subtle and essential changes to speed that are needed for maintaining platter speed accuracy. Or if the electronics doing the speed controlling could need some tweaking in the event they don't work as well as expected due to the extra weight. Or if the feedback mechanism that expects reactions in a particular time frame could be distorted due the heavy platter. It seems like the discussion just ended without any conclusion. Actually I assume it was resolved favorably since it looks like Marco has a MN platter. :) Just would like a confirmation.

One option I’m considering is the Mike New bits: base plate, bearing, platter, arm board (SME 309 is tops on my short list), and new PSU (Time Step or ?). A second option is just send the deck to Sound Hi Fi and have it converted to an Evo.

Opinions? Has anyone heard the Evo? How important is the motor dynamics mod the Evo has? :scratch:

Hi Jeff, how long had your original post been up? I don't recall having read it, but then I probably wouldn't be of help anyway...

The point I'm eluding to, though, is that not everyone checks the forum every day, and not every post - so please don't take it personally, and not really sure why you feel the need to delete the post (taking your ball home? ;)) because you've had no responses? :scratch: - still, you've got one now! ;)

I didn't see your post either or I would if I could have replied to it. Sadly though it is a fact of forum life that sometimes the posts we post, that we hope will create a buzz and grow into an interesting challenging thread don't. Why is a difficult question to answer but I would say that I don't believe its ever malicious just that perhaps folks who could answer don't see it (we all have real world lives.....well some of us :eek: do) those who see it can't or it just slides under the radar. We have all had posts that have been still born.

Patience is the thing.

Agreed with the above, frankly I wouldn't expect a reply to my posts in four hours or less, but if i get one it's a bonus.
