Been done before but hey ho...

I know that peoples choice changes like a politicians expenses form but there are always those fave discs that one always go's back to when the chips are down...

Here are mine -

Supertramp - crime of the century. Such a tuneful album right in the heart of my youth. Good memories.

Neil young - After the gold rush. Just good tunes nowt more.

Wings - Band on the run. The best since the Beatles. Jet is iconic.

These for me are the equivalent of comfort food.

Happy times...:)

I go through phases of listening intensily to some albums its like I want to know inside out and then perhaps not play hardly at all for a few years and then get back into some releatic balance with the album
There are a good few Dream Theater albums I done this with, Surdinder Sandhu Life Cycles and Jeff Buckley Grace also come to mind
The album I seem to be doing this now too is Derek Trucks Joyful Noise

Luis Salinas - the eponymous album

It's the only CD I've ever worn out and replaced. I never tire of the melodies or find it becomes over familiar (although I'm gradually getting all of his work 'cos I can't get enough of it). Also because it hits the spot in different ways; easy chill behind a meal, a nice slide into a Sunday morning, emotional and dynamic when played at realistic volume. It became my test CD for auditioning equipment because it contained many elements on one recording - piano, acoustic and electric guitar, drums and percussion, male vocal, grumbly electric bass. Passionate playing, both rhythmic and melodic. All well recorded, but not excessively so that it would flatter equipment, but rather show up failure to deliver it's wide frequency range or the quality of the musicianship.

Not for most of you here (except Steve) judging by your lists :)
I saw Gong in my teens, one member spent the whole concert fishing at the side of the stage. Mmmmm....

Ooh, this is an interesting thread. I've definitely got some albums I keep on listening to - whatever the mood I just enjoy them.

Top of the list has to be 'Year Of The Cat' by Al Stewart. Dunno why but I just never tire of hearing it. The aural equivalent of comfort food for sure.

Then 'Forbidden Songs of the Dying West' by the late Jackie Leven. Can't get enough of it.

'Hourglass' or 'New Moon Shine' by James Taylor. Love it.

'Coles Corner' by Richard Hawley. Marvellous.

'The Nightfly' by Donald Fagen.

What's interesting though in looking at people's lists is the sheer diversity!

Miles Davis' Kind of Blue; Alexandre Desplat's score for the latest Godzilla (2014); Waltz For Debby by The Bill Evans Trio; The Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, composed by Yoko Kanno & The Seatbelts; Dum Spiro Spero from Dir En Grey. Those are just a few that I have been listening to a lot recently. I think, excluding a few of my mentions, the lineup rotates. It has to; new music is always being released and each with the potential of being an album I end up listening to a lot.

I adore the "folk rock trio" (but I think most Tull fans do too). Broadsword was the first Tull album that I heard. It always takes me back to a really happy time in my life and as a result always gets plenty of playing time!

I have a soft spot for that one too. Saw them in Birmingham in 82' when they had just released it. Not listened to it for many years however so maybe it's a timely reminder to put it on again.

Glad to be of service :). I heard it for the first time on a minibus whilst on an A-Level field trip to Scarborough and surrounding area. This and Yes 90125 got played to death during the field trip. There was a goodly supply of Floyd, Marillion and Zep played too. As I said, happy days :).
