Northwest Analogue Slate Plinth

Hi Folks.
Just thought I would share the latest creation with you.
This time a slate plinth for the Garrard 401, this time with two SME arm mounts.

The Garrard bit doesn't particularly appeal to me, but I like the plinth a lot; in fact, I need something.

Hi Adam, 301 plinth on temporary hold at the mo, sorry. I have too many things on the go. Cartridge repairs are quickly overtaking turntable work!

The 301 slate is now going to be used for the SP10, which I am so looking forward to seeing and hearing. Anyway, this brings me on to a question, have any of you guys got any of your technics in slate? And what does it sound like. Sorry for butting in on your thread Dom:lol:

Just saw your post/question.

Have had an SP10 in thick slate in the very late 80's, but it didn't beat the sl1000 combination. Was improved by isolating the 10 from the slate with a thin bitumen type of layer. I still have a spare SP10 here that is destined to go into a multi-layered plinth of slate, bitumen, aluminium and wood. Always prefered alloy arm boards though, because of their wear and ease of use vs slate.

Like the Slate 401.

Here is our latest creation featuring two circular arm boards!
Garrard was serviced, chassis painted and fitted with new main bearing. Plinth now feature in-laid plaques, this one with customers name.

I'd love something like that for my Goldring G99, though maybe not quite so Goliath in nature, as I reckon it'd damn near pull any wall mount off of a wall :eyebrows:

Thanks Mark. Believe it or not, that plinth and sub shelf are now sitting on a wall shelf! I was having kittens at the thought, but the shelf is still holding.

Actually I used to rig aerials, so I know I can get some bolts that'd hold five tons on a wall :eyebrows:

Have to say that the deck sounds even better than it looks. Bass is unbelievably clean and crisp, everything is much clearer since the noise floor on the deck is so low as to be non-existant.

Now beginning to realise the potential of the arm and cartridge combination and cannot wait to get the second arm fitted and tested out.
