Without first active acoustic treatment, we note that we are in the right limits restitution HiFi (limited green), so it's alive but can be tested with an equalizer.

In the second curve is reached equalized: the max gain correction is + / - 1db.

http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/3020/mesure441fr13112.png

About this equalization is not required if one has a well-equipped for acoustics. In my case, I choose not this one for the liveliness and with for some classical music pieces too light or too analytical records.
In addition, it should not be systematic equalization, it is valid for only one type of source and volume (44.1, 96 ...)

I hope you like my setup, I had a lot of difficulty in achieving what I wanted, I look forward to your comments.

Hi David, what kind of equalisation are you using? Seams to have done a pretty impressive job of straightening out the midrange & treble frequencies :)

The bass end of things is always going to be more difficult due to the overiding presence of room modes, there is a way of sorting it though as long as you have an active system bass wise up to say 100Hz or so ;)

Nice system, cheers for posting the pictures!

Very Nice David, you have really spent some time fine tuning it all

Hello and thank you for your opinion.:):)

I use the EQ with "Digital Room Correction"

http://drc-fir.sourceforge.net/

I prefer to manually correct the bumps in the midrange & treble frequencies rather than automatic equalization

Indeed, the dynamic equalization cup instead of opening it.

Hi, David.

Congratulations, you have a great system! And I’m very happy to meet another person listening with Triangle speakers :-)

Werner.

You also have the "Triangle"!
It has a beautiful clarity

Triangle speakers are not mentioned all that often, I have owned several different models in their range, I have the Quartets at present and really like them. Any one in line for speakers should give Triangle a listen.

Hi,

yes :)
What you as an amplifier and preamp?
Your source is a CD player or computer?

Thx

Hi,

How do you find the Audio Note preamp, I have been considering one of these.

hi,

This is a great product, nice finish, very soft and have bass equity. I replaced the potentiometer with a APLS is more accurate.

I like how you've just commandeered the area in front of the fireplace for the system, Letting the amps keep you warm instead.. great.

CHANGING ROOM

Equalization even more rewarding - for the part-binding. Too much impact on the phase, I must say that I correct to + / - 4db with a downward slope from 2kHz.

Made different from the old workpiece:
- I lost speed of serious ----> recovered with EQ, I can not at the same level but close.
- The downward slope provides an opening width

I had a pair of Triangle Antals a few years ago and really enjoyed them. Triangle like to install voltage dependant resistors on their crossover networks which does suppress their dynamics somewhat. I soldered some wire links across these and the speakers really did open up and sing :eyebrows:

I saw the pic of the open PC. I would be very interested in your choice components. I consider this to be a fertile area for Hi-Fi. There are 'servers' out there costing 'millions' but the reality (I am doing it) is that a simple PC can be the server. That is for starters and then one can work on the myriad tweaks, such as underclocking, soundproofing, vibration proofing, power supply upgrades, playing from memory, choice of components such as Hard Drives etc.

Triangle
I have the Magellan Cellos. I would not call them the ultimate but they certainly do have a fabulous midrange. Also the tweeter arrangement is such that the sweetspot in the room is rather large.

Hi Pat,

Lovely system you have going on there! I, too, am a big fan of Triangle speakers - used to own the Solis stand mounts and the Ventis XS floorstanders back in the day. Great sounding stuff.
For quite a while, Triangle used to demo their speakers with Audio Analogue gear - great synergy across the board.

Effem> I have not optimized the speakers because I think there are already enough work on the acoustics of the room.

Andrei>
Computer components are very simple: a silent hard drive, polyurethane, cork, quiet fans, elastic to hold the discs. But it is especially in the software that I worked: I cut services and optimized registry. To minimize latency.

Vouk> Thanks for your message. That said, since the change in part (page 2) rendering is very different but pleasant.

I have also a pair of Antals which I enjoy very much, but would you mind giving me a little more details about the Mod you mentioned above? Much appreciated!

I have had an incline that the xovers could do with a little work...

Huge gains can be got just by bypassing the current/voltage limiters. They are brown discs, as I recall on each one of the PCBs. They may not be easy to spot as there are a few variants of the Xovers fitted to these speakers (the ones in the picture are slightly different to what I had). Once you have found their location either take them out or leave them in situ and short circuit them out with a piece of wire soldered across the pads.

Secondly, get rid of those dreadful white ceramic "coffin" resistors and fit high quality ceramic wirewound ones made by someone like Craddock.

http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/attachments/zerius2-jpg.58734/

Finally, there are a few capacitors (Marked "C1" on the board) which are easily bested by good quality Polypropylene capacitors. The values required mean that the replacement caps are quite large so careful fitting is needed, perhaps add long fly leads and plenty of insulation so they rest in the cabinet. I didn't carry out this mod because I had a real job finding these values at sensible prices, however the limiter bypass and the replacement resistors certainly took the sound quality up by no insignificant amount on their own without the capacitor replacement. :eyebrows:

I had linked to the Steve Hoffman forum because I couldn't find any other xover pictures on the net. I suspect they didn't like links to their photos :(

I found them in this thread:
