Hopefully this is in the right section, if not mods please move it to the correct one.

Anyway seeing as I am now converted to vinyl and I want to get the best out of what vinyl I already have and new/old vinyl coming in, Ive been looking at wet and dry RCM's, ouch very expensive! (£200 to £3000+)

A quick google has shown that one can be made at home with minimal resources and oultay that would do the job, thus Id love to see what people have done on here in terms of a DIY version and if it has been successful.

Cheers all

Lee

Not made one but I've run a Moth RCM for years with great results and absolutely no problems. They are very reasonably priced.

I can second the Moth RCM, a bit noisy but does the job well, been using mine for several years now.

Several threads here on that subject:

First on the bill is a thread started by 'shahsy' which discusses manual cleaning & then moves on to machines (& back again).
Microfibre cloths and washing up liquid are the business!

Next up, Philip (Baron) wondered whether a record cleaning machine might be a good investment.

MOTH RCM, you can buy a DIY pack of a certain auction site for £250.

A forum friend of mine (I don't think he's on AoS) has made up a fab system.

Old turntable to manually spin the disc.
Isop alcohol and wetting agent and cleaner solution.
Modified hoover attachment - cut a slot in a 'crevice tool' and put felt along the edges.
Microfibre pad/brush to give the LP a good scrubbing.

The slot on the vacuum cleaner crevice tool took a bit of trial and error to match to the power of the cleaner's suction, apparently.

Place LP on tt, apply cleaning solution, scrub well while rotating platter, suction off surplus liquid.

It only cost a few £. It worked amazingly well, cleaning up a dodgy charity shop LP I had just bought. Must admit I am tempted to try bodging one up myself.

Ive got the pipework sorted out and cut a slot in it, just need to get the velvet stick on stuff, any idea as to where I can get this from?

At the moment our garage is full of plastic pipe and fittings I nabbed from work along with bits of wood, its all good fun i must admit.

I've cleaned a couple of hundred + records now. I 'upgraded' from the Vax in the garage to a Mini/hobby paint compressor that also sucks at just the right pressure. It's quiet too.
