Presume both have heard them then?

Nope, I've never heard 'em, but I read on the internet that they're good. ;)

Seriously, though, I heard them and I liked them - but then again, I have yet to hear an old pair of big Goodmans that I don't like.

No, they're not brash, shouty or spitty but smooth and decently musical with a nice big, lovely bass. It is not entirely within the realms of possibility that one or more tweeters were blown on the pair that Puffin heard. If I remember correctly, they used the Goodmans DT3 25mm soft dome and these can be a bit fragile....

Should work well with valve amp and valve cd player then adam?

Excellent - looking forward to it!

Just remember, you won't hear them at their best until you re-wire them and replace the crossover components, particularly the capacitors.

At this point with any other speaker, I would also recommend changing the invention-of-satan push-on driver tags for solder connections. However Goodmans were a quality loudspeaker company and their operators knew how to solder....;)

Push on tags will be removed immediately and the speaker connections are underneath anyway so they will be re-housed to the back and Nick will help me with cross-over components, jobs a gud un!

We are all entitled to our own opinions kind sir, I have the speakers now but not had chance to take them apart yet, they look in good condition considering their age and what I paid for them wouldn't even buy a curry for my mates :)

I may take them to next months gathering that lurcher attends. :eyebrows:
