View Full Version : This is my hello thread - Hi
I am an engineer and though I did work in the HiFi business in the mid 70s I spent most of my career motor racing - about 35 years altogether.
I like most music, although most rap and country doesn't appeal.
I am a bit of a hoarder so don't sell as much as I should. I also use my system a great deal and consider it worth spending much more on my hifi than my car, for example.
I have had a lot of kit over the years, have designed turntables and arms and made amps and speakers back when I had time and little cash...
Now I own:-
Turntables,
Goldmund reference with T3f arm and Ortofon Jubilee
Roksan Xerxes with RB300 arm and Ortofon MC30
Digital players,
Goldmund Mimesis 36+ with Mimesis 20 DAC
dCs P8i SACD player
Resolution Audio Cantata music center
Technics SL-DZ1200
Original DaCapo
Audiosynthesis DAX
Apogee mini-DAC
Metric Halo ULN-2 ADC/DAC
Metric Halo LIO-8 ADC/DAC
StellaDAT
Pioneer D-C88 portable DAT
Sony portable DAT recorder (forgotten model and my wife is using it)
Marantz DD82 DCC recorder
Analogue recorders,
Revox B77
Nakamichi CR-7E
Tuners,
Musical Fidelity T1 (in A1 matching case)
Hitachi FT5500
Lynx Theta
Amps,
Goldmund Mimesis 22 pre
2x Goldmund Mimesis 29.4 monos
Goldmund PH2 phono pre
2x DeVialet D-Premier
4x NuForce Ref 9
Audiolab 8000A(?)
Audioanalyse A90
Classic 16.0
Speakers,
Goldmund Epilog 1&2 with epiframe
Goodmans 15 ohm LS3.5a
Harbeth P3ES with Xtender
Proac EBS
Yamaha NS1000M
NXT cardboard pyramids
Wharfedale 708
Probably got other stuff I've forgotten.
The music I listen to most turns out to be Bach, Tori Amos, Mahler, Frank Zappa, Puccini, Roger Waters, Brahms, Beethoven, and so forth...

Hi Frank, welcome to AoS :) That's some serious amount of kit you have there chap (some very nice stuff to imo by the way), no doubt you only listen to a few bits at a time :eyebrows:
Must admit I'm a bit of a hoarder as well, I probably have enough stuff here to put another four or five systems together
I guess it happens to the best of us
Hope you enjoy your stay, all the very best!
E2A:- Just noticed the dCS stuff & Yamaha NS1000Ms

Welcome to AOS

Welcome from me too Frank.
Welcome to AoS Frank.
Hmmm - that's some collection! I must point out that it is explicitly stated in the small print of the conditions of membership, that all audio equipment of high quality that is not used, must be immediately handed over to either one of the Moderators or one of the Librarians for safe disposal! ;) I'll look after those Mimesis amplifiers!
Excellent taste in music there.
Welcome again
Regards
Hello Frank :)
If there’s a queue for your kit I’ll take the Metric Halo signal processors, the Revox, the NuForce and the NSM1000 please.
I feel I have to warn you though, they might get some country and Hip Hop played on them :eyebrows:
Oh arr, welcome to the nut house.

Hello Frank. Which teams have you worked for?
Hesketh Racing, Williams Grand Prix Engineering, Team Lotus, Ligier, Benetton, TWR.
Hi Frank and welcome to AoS. I'm surprised you don't have a Garrard in your collection seeing as you worked for them?
Hi from me too Frank - interesting, very interesting! :)
Hi Frank,
I'll be coming over to hear your system as soon as I can ( this will be an honour for you).
We'll start with the Goldmund front end and amps. Speakers will be the OBS and the NS1000 initially but be prepared for me to change my mind.
Your missus should have a light lunch prepared for around 1pm and you can take me to the pub around 7pm. Is your spare room made up? Ah! Good.

Welcome to AOS Frank
I am a bit of a hoarder too....
I think I can speak for all of us, that we would love to see photos of your system. If you would like to (please) can you put the photos in the Gallery section of the forum.
Nice taste in music by the way....

Hi Martin, my first turntable was a Garrard bought with my first ever pay cheque in 1968... It is now long gone, I don't remember the model number.
Having spent time measuring turntables I would not use one without an effective isolation from the mechanical environment - this is a story for another post, really - and the Goldmund is the most effective I have used.
cheers,
Frank

Well I was brought up in Kirkham, but don't live anywhere near now...
I have only ever played the Goldmund electronics through the Goldmund speakers, which I chose after a 2 year long listenothon including everything I could get to listen to at the time. They were the best speakers available at that time IMO and I still haven't heard better. Like most Goldmund kit the price (always high) has gone berserk as they have gone for the only lucrative market left. They weigh 120kg each so moving them about can be your job...

Lets have some pictures of your Goldmund stuff in the gallery then Frank
:worthless:
Sorry Andre, I have seen there is a thread for pix but, frankly, I can't be bothered posting pictures on the web using the method necessary for this forum, sorry. I don't even put my grandchildren pix on Facebook. (My how I HATE Facebook)
Hi Frank,
No worries, mate. Email them to me (I'll PM you my addy) and I'll post them for you. We're all dying to see your kit! :)
Marco.

You can't join a forum and mention all the mouthwatering goodies and not let us see a few pics....frankly that's cruel and unusual torture in my book.
That's a bit like (imho) being a lovely woman, who during a date lets you see a glimpse of a stocking top and suspender (deliberately) and then says goodnight with a wee peck on the cheek.....:(
I value my security and privacy too but you will find photos of my gear on AOS, so go on be a sport and post a few photos. It only takes seconds to join photobucket or similar, uploading automatically resizes and then all you do is click on the photos img code, place within and presto photos of your system. Ten minutes would see it all done :)

Welcome Frank..... Hesketh and Tow Walkinshaw.... nice. I like the user name too, very apt ;)
Looking forward to the pictures and I saw Tori last week, what a fantastic show that was - my first time seeing her too. I hope you have fun here, lot's of very friendly and knowledgeable folk (with the odd nutter too, of which I include myself :eyebrows:).
Hello and welcome Frank, what a life you have led and what a collection of Kit
