Silver coax cable.

Bearing in mind a lot of people always tell you that it's just carrying a load of 0's and 1's, anyone here noticed an improvement when using a genuine silver coax between their SB Touch, or similar, and their Dac?

Mark Grant does a supra trico cable terminated with silver WTB plugs.Gazjam on here brought one over to let me hear It.I bought one the next day.....Expensive,but worth it.

I use a Coax with a solid Silver multi strand inner core in my system ( outer braid
is Silver plated Copper ) and it sounds superb, but every system is different.
It was bought from Maplins over Ten Years back but I don't think they sell
it now.

I use a couple of 1M white 'BELKIN PURE AV DIGITAL COAXIAL' cables, one for my SB to Audiolab DAX, the other from my M-Audio 192 to my Beresford. I got these from ebay earlier this year @ £7.95 each!!!:eek:

They were a significant improvement upon their respective predecessors.

Unfortunately I can't see any similar listings at the moment, the white ones are better than the grey, if you can find them, I think they must have been old stock...:)

P.S. They're not silver however, they're shielded copper

Get a decent well shielded coax with genuine 75ohm plugs, the 75ohm part is more important than what metal any of it is made from. Check the spdif specification, you'll notice it demands a true 75ohm termination- they don't specify what metal should be used.

And there lies the problem. Standard RCA phonos have a characteristic impedance much less than 75 Ohm. Even those made by WBT or Furutech that claim to have an impedance of 75 ohm, don't once they are mated with the standard phono socket of the player.

The only way of ensuring a true 75 ohm interface is to use BNC connectors, and then you have to check as both 50ohm and 75ohm versions exist!

Agree the choice of conductor is largely unimportant. More important is the quality of the screening and the 'surface transfer impedance' of the screening. But again, that information is rarely given by cable manufacturers.
