I hooked up my new 1210 last night. £110 ebay purchase. I put ADC arm on it, as it fit the Rega armboard, and my trusty Shure VST V.
The mat is the Blue Horizon borrowed from my Thorens. It sticks up at the edges a bit, but it'll do until I find a better one.
I stole the Isoplat from under the pre, as it didn't do anything for it.

I'd always thought the Teccy was butt-ugly. But it's sort of growing on me. It does sound quite good. Surprisingly good.
I've asked the guys at Soundsupports to make me and armboard so that I can put my Hadcock on it, and hope the sound will improve further.
Having had a look over the platter it appears to be a poorly machined, cheap piece of crap. Without a mat on it's the ringiest thing I've heard. And I've heard quite a few ringy things in my life.

The platter is what it is! It was made to a price point. Thankfully there are several other platters available. Try looking out for Mike New, he's the guy you need to research. I had the soundsupport tonearm board for my technoarm, t'was very good but the Mike New copper version is the one you should be aiming for if you intend to seriously mod your techie.

Amazed how bad the stock platter seems to be these days. My SL1500 platter seems far more substantial, even if it does need a mat to damp it (as do most platters I think).

It has an Origin Live Rega armboard on at the moment. Probably soon to be seen for sale on here.
I'm not sure if I wan to be 'seriously' modding the Techie. Maybe I'll start with a homebrew psu and go from there. At the moment it just seems a bit daft spending a large amount of money on upgrades to it. But my opinion changes by the week. I'd like to find a cheap and cheerful way of getting as much as I can out of it.

I think I've been converted. The only things i've done with it so far are to give the bearing a bit of a polish and give it a drop of oil, and fit my Hadcock.
Hadcocks are a pain in the cock to set up. But it does seem to go rather well with my Shure cartridge.
The result is that the only time I've played a cd in the last week or so is as background music when I'm doing summat. Previously I think I listened to cd about 75% of the time. I think I've discovered what pitch stability is all about.
The mat I'm using is the Blue horizon from my Thorens. It doesn't fit inside the lip, but it all sounds good so I might leave it for the moment. For isolation I've slapped it on an old Isoplatt.
If only I could cover up that butt ugly slidy thing it might not look so bad.

I think the 'slidy thing' looks cool !! It makes the deck look a tad purposeful to me. I dont mind understated but then too understated can = boring looking. The Techy certainly could never be accused of being that :eyebrows:

You can modify the 1210 to get rid of this, mods are available if you have a little knowledge of soldering diodes, just have a look around the net. Secondly you can simply house the pitch control inside the 1210 and fill the hole in but dont use anything metallic it may conduct, vibrate nasty things into your cartridge of chasis! The problem you then have is that you'll have to powder coat the plinth or something similar.
