Got problems with the lighting in my home, and before I bankrupt myself calling in the Electricians, just wondered if there were any sparky's on AOS who might be able to throw me a bit of guidance please? Cheers

I'm sorry, but I'm not an electrician Mark, but maybe if you describe your problem, someone will be able to help.

I recognise that you're asking for advice, but you should also bear in mind that sometimes you can't beat having a trained & experienced person on the spot, so please don't go poking around in there unnecessarily just to save a few quid, now will you?

Well I took your advice and got a sparky in this morning. Instead of joining the loop wires together, I'd isolated them in insulation tape. Soon as he saw them he knew straight away what the the problem was. It's funny how you take lights for granted. Got through 7 candles in the last few days, but am well pleased to have the problem sorted and the guy was a gem, charged me just £20, which I thought was excellent in this day and age :)

I guess you took a ceiling rose down :)

One tip is to take a photo with your mobile phone or camera before disconnecting all the wires..

£20 was a good price :)
