I would just like to say hi to all may name is Sharif and I live in Northamptonshire.
When browsing the net I will usually have a look what’s on here and have a good read so for me it about time I sign-up.

Music is all tastes, jazz, classical, rock, punk and pop but not country and western.

Nice collection of gear you have there: the combination of the Electrocompaniet 25W class A amp with the Quad 57s is one of the matches made in heaven!

As Barry says, a nice selection of gear you have there. I too, have a oft spot for the original Electrocompaniet amp, having come ascloseasthis to buying one, once upon a time.

The Naim cloned NAP160 is a NAP250 without the regulated supply.

I built a pair of mono blocks in 1990 from a hand draw circuit diagram that was given to me by Julian Vereker in 1986.
At that time I was working with Barry Porter one of the original designers of the trident mixing desk and I remember Barry chatting to Julian about his amplifiers.
Julian said it was made with transistors that he had in his part bins and they were nothing special.

I still have the circuit diagram but it a bit faded.

This is one of the mono block amplifiers.

It's a 500VA transformer and four 15000uF capacitor banked as 30000uF per supply rail.

I have to turn them on one by one, not the circuit breaker trips.
They still dimmer the light at turn on.

BDY58 selected and re-badged I did ask about other output transistors and Julian said try some of the Japanese 2SC devices.

In my amps I fitted 2SC2565 output transistors but I later changed it to complementary transistors 2SC2565/2SA1095 there was no difference to the sound so they have stayed in.

I believe that some of the NAP140 amps have 2SC2922 fitted and some later one were Naim's own T03 transistor.

Nice. Originally made by Sescosem, I believe? My first amp, a Linsley-Hood 75, used quasi-complementary BDY56 npn output trannies and they were pretty much unburstable.

:lol: Yes, with a transformer that size it may well be worth fitting a resistor & shorting relay to lower the inrush current. Once the caps have nearly fully charged the relay shorts out the resitor & allows full current to the transformer. It also saves having to use an overated mains fuse so it doesn't blow when switched on ;)

Nice PSU, nothing like having loads of power to tap into if it's needed :cool:
