View Full Version : Greetings from Cologne Germany!
Hello!
My name is Reza and i come from cologne in germany.
I like a lot of kind music, but mostly jazz and funk.
I hear with following equipment:
speaker:Proac EBS
CD player:Meridian 508 24bit
Preamplifier:Klimo Merlin
Power amp : DIY Class D with TDA8920 Chip
Turntable: Dual 1229 / shure V15 III -Sony PS X60 /Denon Dl103
After a long good times with Tannoy Berkley,i have change my speakers, and i am very happy with the sound of the old proac EBS with the sensational ATC SCM75 in the midrange.
I hope of a good time and good talks!
Regards
Reza

Hi Reza, welcome to AoS from me also :) The ATC midrange does have a pretty well deserved reputation imo, i can't think of many units that would equal or beat it ;) Maybe two spring to mind...
Nice to see another DIYer on the board, bests to you & i hope you enjoy your stay
Hi Reza,
I have been a big Jazz and Jazz-Funk fan for many many years. Who do you listen to, What are your favourite tracks or artists?
Hello!
Thank you very much for welcome!
Yes ,the ATC sounds fantastic.
I have heard over 5 years with the Tannoy berkley in a modded cabinet, and the sound of the HPD's was very good. Before this i had a lot of speakers, but i found the tannoy are the best compromise for all kind of music, and I've never imagined that i go after this back to a 3-way system :)
But the Proac, make a very good job.I hear, as if have new ears..
Lot of very fine details and a fantastic 3D image.
I wish you a nice sunday evening
Regards
Reza
Welcome :)
Playing devil's advocate, I think I'd have suggested keeping the Berkeley's and souping up the crossovers, as well as having Lockwoods refurb the drivers when the foam surrounds packed in. You've done it now though, and I remember the EBS being one of the better passive speakers using the ATC mid-dome, which is now unnecessarily expensive to make and limited in application for the performance it offers these days I understand - one area where far eastern manufacture offers so much to us currently, especially as so many talented designers have abandoned Europe for eastern provinces.....
I love the old Dual 1229 and although I passed mine on some time ago, I have the 701 and shall never sell it. Try an SAS stylus in the V15 at some point. I have a V15 IIILM in a Dual shell (the special version Dual used) as well as a V15 II with new Shure stylus, which despite not being as "neutral," has a magic all its own. The HE stylus "subtled up" the mkIII no end, and I understand the SAS takes this much further again :)

Nice. Try Mechelle N'dege Ochello, Diana Krall (Temptation) EST trio, Lars Dannielsson, Wolfgang Haffner.
Hello Dave!
The Crossover from my berkley was modded too.I had used Auricaps and Mundorf CFC Air Coils in low.The result was more details and dry bass.My HPD was reconed by lockwood too..Yes the Jico Sas are at the moment the best choice! The 701 sound in my ear very good too, maybe much better then expensive 721

Pity the whole lot could'nt be dual concentric ;)
Hi Reza, here is one of the few midrange drivers that i reckon can cut the mustard (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120794492944?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649), & i just bought it :eyebrows: I can't imagine killing one of these as they are pretty well underated, but it's nice to have a spare...
Or it might become a mid for a centre speaker in my AV setup :) That's one driver that is at least on a par with the ATC mid imho :)
Hello Mark!
Yes ,the Yamaha MS1000 was legendary.Yamaha has used beryllium much time before scan speak and focal!I do not also want to imagine what 3,5 beryllium midds by scanspeak will costs today!.There have also been times when i look for this speakers, but i found not a pair in good condition in my near.
Wish you great fun by building!
Regards
Reza
Hello Reza and welcome to AoS.
It's not just the Yamahas that have a beryllium mid, my Ushers have them too. Fantastic transparency and dynamics.
