Hi,

I'm Dave and I'm from Consett, CoDurham. My story is unusual as although I am a music lover, I have only recently acquired some decent hifi equipment - from the estate of an elderly friend. Most of the high end stuff had been taken and I was able to salvage some of the older stuff, most of which I couldn't identify and some which didn't work.

A friend of mine is working on the Quad 33 / 303 combination at the minute and until it is ready I am using my Nad amp and a set of B&W DM1600 speakers from a variety of sources. He is also working on a Quad 22 / Quad II valve amp combination which I hope to sell and purchase some better equipment for myself.

In an attempt to identify some pieces of gear, I joined a similar forum but found it strangely, oppressively moderated and left. This is when I found this forum and it seemed more like my cup of tea.

I also have lots of boxes of parts and instruction booklets that I would like to unashamedly use your forum to sell on to your members in return for donations to my charity.

I love live music and being in my mid 30's I am stuck in the 80's and early 90's. I enjoy going to at least one festival a year an the highlight of this year were the Foo fighters and Pulp at the Isle of Wight. I know this isn't Rossini played on a slate bedded Garrard turntable but I might grow into that!:ner:

As discression is the better part of valour so i will say 'the one where there are lots of people with an unhealthy interest in cats'!

I think I was moderated on my eighth attempt for my incorrect spelling of Bakelite

- just kidding, though I was quite honest about my lack of knowledge and that I was hoping to learn a bit, build a system and pass on parts and books etc, however everything I did dis-appeared. I think they may be a bit 'set in their ways'

Hi and welcome from me:) if the above "other" forum is the one you mean, I have returned there from time to time to lurk and post, although for good or bad, I keep coming back here :) Many of us are feline-fans too - pussies of all kinds sums it up I think :lol:

Can you post some pics please, either via Photobucket or another photo-sharing site.. The Quad 2/II will fetch good money and, if you're not emotionally attached to them (amazing how this happens with valve gear), best sold I think. The 33/303 can be transformed from a charming antique amp into a FAR more up-to-date animal with only modest changes to certain caps etc (I still recommend changing C400 in the 33 from 0.068uF to 1uF which transforms the bass reproduction with modern sources, but I digress).

Oh it sounds fantastic to, makes my other transport (Theta Data Basic) sound like it's gone wrong :eyebrows: Good luck on the hunt for one ;) I won't tell you what i payed for it as it'll bring tears to your eyes...

Thanks for a warm welcome it is such a breath of fresh air in light of my recent experiences! I will take some photos next week and post them. I have made a good friend from one of the forums who is a genius electrical engineer and has been a lifesaver ( I won't blow his trumpet too much as I think he may frequent this forum also!) he 'pops in' capacitors here and resistors there..... I will ask him to consider the 303 as I was going to flog it but now fancy keeping it!
As for cats Dave, I am also a fan of certain ones...... but am really more of a dog man myself. I have boxes full of stuff I want to pedal off to other nice people and enthusiasts and Willie (the chap who built this collection over the last 60 years) would agree.
My grand plan is to offer the scans to the grand Wazoo first and see if he needs them for the library
I will then pop them all on for a tenner each on the forum... and if they don't go reduce to a fiver. All to a good cause which is Strayaid.
Anyway I want to check that is okay with Marco first :-)

Just to clear a little thing up, though - I'm not the only one involved in the Library - Nick & Barry are also Librarians - the scans get onto the forum through teamwork. It's just that I do the last bit in the chain of work, so I tend to announce them when they become available.

Ha, It's an old nickname based in Sidney Smutt's favourite adult magazine from Viz. A long story from when I was at college (and obviously before the internet:lol:)
