My digital adventure has now truly begun!
Here's my shiny new set up:
Squeezebox Touch accessing a two terrabyte Vortexbox with an optical DVD drive built in and a bunch of software pre-installed (incl. SB server & DAAP) - both wired into my router giving me a clean transfer and 100 mbps speed.
The SB touch is TOSLINKed to a Caiman Gatorized.
I have set up my Spotify, LastFM and TuneIn accounts on the SB Touch so I now have access to more music than I can ever listen to!
And, of course, the sound quality is superb - clear, expansive, noiseless and beautifully balanced.
My Macbook is out of the loop, as I wanted dedicated music kit so I'm pretty happy.
I will be spending some time ripping all my CD's into FLAC format and will transfer a mirror of my iTunes library to the Vortexbox also (removing the iTunes version of the FLAC files once I've finished re-ripping).
The cost? I picked up the SB Touch from Amazon for £180, the Vortexbox for £260 and the Caiman for £210 - in my eyes an absolute bargain as the difference in sound quality is awesome.
So, once again, a huge thank you to everyone who gave me advice on how best to go about getting a sorted digital set up.
