FS: Linn Isobariks

I am selling my beautiful black ash 'briks. I've owned these from new and they are in excellent condition - unusually the foam grills are in near original condition.

The isobariks have unbelievable bass and dynamics and work particularly well with rock and jazz. I am struggling to find replacement speakers that can come close to their performance in this area.

Move to smaller property forces reluctant sale of these beauties. They come with the original Linn spiked stands and the original packaging.

Don't worry Mr Fish. After three pairs of DMS's in past decades, I don't miss them at all, unlike the ATC100A's I owned some years later :( Even these latter aren't as good as my current ancient setup at LOW volume levels ;)

I think you are going to have to give quite a few more details if you are going to attract the buyers. There are lots of generations of Isobarik.

Chipboard or MDF cabinet, which tweeters, the C stands or the later four leg ones, panels in the stands?, external X-over or internal (can this be accessed or not), XLR or banana sockets on the back (and if so, how many). The very last ones had Ku-stone internal damping.

I bought them from new in 1989 . They have the internal crossover which, I'm told by my dealer, was superior to the subsequent internal crossover. The stands are Linn's open steel sectioned spiked (top and bottom).

I'm afraid I can't tell you any more about the tweeter and other drive arrangement - or the internal construction. Perhaps others more knoweldgeable might chip in.

What I can tell you is that they sound fantastic to this day. They are outstanding at a number of things including providing convincing levels of bass and 'thump' whilst being superb at timing. IMHO if you listen to jazz and rock (or chamber music, country and folk for that matter) you will not find a better speaker. If you listen to large scale orchestral music you will start to find their shortcomings in terms of depth imaging.

I am forced to sell them because they are out of place (and unwelcome) in the house to which I will be moving with SWMBO. Yes I know I'm a wuss and I should insist the 'briks come with me but -hey- life is full of compromises

sorry - x-over was superior to later EXTERNAL one.

There are (I think) 6 sockets on the rear panel in case you want to conver them to active use.

From your description, I think the X-overs of your Isobariks can be accessed via a screwed down panel in the base of the cabinet.

If I were you, I would post a bunch of pictures with and without grills. If you post the S/N the exact specification can be found. However, Linn didn't fit the six socket option till quite late in the Isobarik life so they will have MDF cabinets and late tweeters (but not as late as the Kustone damped ones, or the X-overs would be external).
