As requested a little more info. I'm a schoolteacher/musician(pianist,guitarist,singer of sorts) with a large and varied cd collection.Everything from Beefheart to Miles to Radiohead to Floyd to Debussey to The Damned and Fairport.
My hifi journey started in 89 with a kenwood cdp/rotel 930AX and/cyrus780 combo that I really enjoyed.
Unfortunately the Kenwood packed in in 2003 and I found an MF cd A3 which sounded too bright with the rotel and cyrus which I sold.I havent really been 100% happy with my main system since. Most recently I was running a NAD cdp(too bright) or PS1(not bad but really did need to be left on which caused it to heat up and read poorly) with a Trends 10 T amp and some handmade Italian style 94dbw speakers. This last system lacked dynamics and depth of soundstage.
I just picked up a Rotel 965BX cdp for £30 and it is sounding better with the trends but even with high sensitivity speakers it sounds messy in busy musical passages/crescendos and lacks dynamics.
My plan is to trial a number of bits of second hand gear at home and find something that I can live with for the next ten years without being tempted to trawl the net in search of suggestions for nirvana.

Hi Steven, welcome to AoS for me also :) You might want to consider some kind of CDP with a valve output stage if it's not out of your budget ;) Finding a secondhand one at the right price may well be problematic though

Bests to you & i hope you enjoy your stay
