Can you flatten a 'Bell' warped record?

Hello.

I have a record thats warped to the 'Bell' warp. I have heard that this cannot be fixed.. does anyone know for certain if this is the case?

Firstly, I don't know what the bell warp is exactly, but try putting the disc into warm water, letting it soak enough to become slightly supple, and then having dried it off first, put it between a couple of heavy objects and leave it a few days.

A bell warp is when instead of the outer rim being warped unevenly, the center of the record is warped upwards so the record is like a bell shape... obviously if you turn it over it's an inverted bell shape. In other words it needs flattening from the center outwards.

From your use of the word bell, I thought you were describing some kind of double opposed curve warpage nightmare to give a shape like a bell curve in statistical analysis.

It still works, provided the dishing isn't excessive.

The clamp itself is a hollow annulus so presses against the outer rim of the label. Under the record is a felt washer placed on the spindle. When you press down hard and screw tight, the clamp bows the record downwards against the rim of the platter.

Ah, i see & comprehend Martin :) I guess it'd have more effect than nothing, but i can't help thinking it'd be much more effective on one side that the other.

Someone mentioned weights that can be applied to the rim of a record on some thread, me thinks that'd sort it a tad better on the side where the dishing is higher at the edge ;)

Assuming no fouling of the platter of course..

Sorry but given the above doesn't it work out the opposite way about if the record is flipped :scratch: I mean you can't have the same thing both ways surely ;)

If it's dished one way then on the flip side it must be the opposite :)
