Transport

I thought about this the other day for here after buying an Old engine in the south of France, i belong to a French forum for such vintage things and they have a section called simply Transport, where you can post and ask if anyone is going your way and if they can collect and take it all the way or part transport to another forum members house a bit closer to home, which is hopefully happening as we speak

Basically a network of like minded people who don't mind dropping things off when there passing by, we all like buying bits and bobs but sometimes they are miles away so perhaps this could be made a sticky, we all know what couriers can charge and more to the point what damage occurs once your nice old amp has been up and down the back of a panel van for a few days.

Seeing Johns post prompted me to write this (bargains on ebay) he has bought a Trio amp it needs to come down the M6/M1 or what ever from the Midlands to London

I don't mind picking something up locally and holding it until one of us can take it a bit further


Not sure if it could work as there needs to be a fair amount of trust involved, Just something for you all to think about

I'd say there would be no more trust involved than there is in the classified adverts section in reality. I also think it's a good idea, well done for bringing it up Jon ;)

While i would be able to hold stuff for a while, I have no transport of my own. However that doesn't stop someone popping in to collect something now does it :cool:

All it would take is a dot on a map showing roughly where each person willing to participate lives and maybe a quick description of longish journeys some people might make regularly. If anyone's doing a one off journey, they could post it.

This could probably be done with Google Maps, I think.

I'm happy to help if I can - I live in Ipswich, but make reasonably regular visits to Halifax, Leeds, Hull, Northampton, Kettering, Milton Keynes, Romford, Maidstone, London (City) for work - occasional leisure trips to Windsor area and Bognor area -happy to help if I can.

It should be only visible to members, so maybe Google maps isn't the best way. Easy enough for one of us to knock up a map image with some dots on it. If a map is used, people's locations should only be identified by their approximate position - within a few miles is good enough to know if a participant can help - perhaps any more should be discussed privately.

Unfortunately, being semi-retired now, I don't travel around anything like as much as I used to, but I'd certainly be willing to join this scheme, where North Wales, Chester (parts of Cheshire) and the Wirral and Merseyside were concerned.

I also occasionally go up to Glasgow, so could also include that area, depending on when someone wanted something dropping off.

Alex and Chris, could you liaise with Jon on this, get some more ideas, and then thrash out the logistics of it all in the mod room? Ta! :cool:

Nice idea, Jon. I don't travel any great radius but certainly cover Basingstoke, Reading, Wokingham, Ascot & Windsor and the occasional foray into London.

I don't travel as much as i used to either but cover some of East and West Sussex, have relations and mates in parts of Hampshire and Dorset who i see regulary, the odd trip to West Kent and of course the Pie show.

Just need to post what it is to be collected, where it needs to go and a time scale if the seller wants it shot quick and then we can plot a route between us when or if the time arrives, perhaps those who are willing to partisipate could have a bit on their profile as to where the town is they live in or near, we can all then look up google maps and ask the question if someone is close by, just keep your actual address details confined to a PM, it might take a week or so to get your purchase but It all should be done voluntary with no pressure,

We usually have spare storage space, if anybody wants to use it as a "transit point" just drop us a line. We are in Bracknell, Berkshire so convenient for the M3 and M4.

You don't really need a map to be honest, just post in here if you have an item that needs collected with the rough location and then await a reply from someone who is willing to oblige and PM them the actual address. For instance, I may need a pair of KEF Cadenza's picked up in the next few days from Cumbria. Now that's a long hike from Northamptonshire so once I've had notification that they are mine I'll post in here on the off chance ;)

I also have a pair of Celestion F15's awaiting pick up at ShaunH's (Haselsh1) place. I was looking forward to picking them up myself but I worked out it would cost me almost as much in fuel as a new pair of F15's off t'internet, so if anyone either lives or is passing close to Pickering, Yorks and is southbound sometime soon, please let myself and Shaun know if you don't mind picking them up. Incidentally, I'm willing to meet up at a motorway services to save on journey time ;)

Other than the main body of this thread i can recommend a super one man courior for big items i used the other day.Really nice bloke he was, he's based in Suffolk but will deliver anywhere in UK. With exception to Channel & scottish Island which are 3rd party service he has three Area charges within the UK then, which are £65.00, £75.00 & £85.00..He also does Ireland Monthly @ £100.00, but please remember he will have to create a route around other customers hence your not gonna get it quick as using a commercial small scale courior which is understandable or it wouldnt be worth his while..You'll find most work this way anyway..

My very clean & tidy Suzuki van is off the road at the moment for some work.

But when it's up and running, I may be willing to collect or drop off Hi-Fi within say 50 miles west of London for a modest cost (I avoid central and east London like the plague). My van is equipped to carry delicate large items and would carry say, a pair of Tannoy Lancasters in safety easily.

I'll post again when it's back on the road.

I have a van too, and travel from south London to Somerset (Glastonbury) every other week. M3/ A303, sometimes i travel via A36 Warminster/ Frome , also travel to South Wales every now and again.

Is anyone travelling up to the East Midlands area from Kent sometime before Christmas please? Patience never was one of my virtues plus I am close to throttling these bloody Linton's. I am missing the open, effortless sound of a good pair of speakers therefore the mission would be to pick up my ART Skibo's from Ledzep and whisk them up to me here in Northamptonshire... ;)

Not before xmas I'm afraid, but I'll be headed down to Kent (Ashford) for new year and coming back to Cambridge shortly after if you're still stuck, not sure how we bridge the final gap but I'm sure we can come up with something.

I'd not seen this thread before but pretty much the first thing that happened when I joined this forum was that I picked up an amp in Beds and dropped it off to Dan in Bournmouth (as I was headed that way that weekend). If I'm holiday driving then I'm very rarely in a rush so normally quite happy to take a small detour for a spot of adventure.

Cheers for the offer Marc but Dan (Ledzep) is coming up this way around the same time so if worst comes to the worst I will just have to wait a while longer for them. I'm just missing what I had before the DM2's went pop is all... :eyebrows:
