Being a single man stout of trouser and a home owner I am entitled to squat in terms of benefits so sadly have to work.

I am currently in the middle of a 25 x 12 hour night shift stint without a single night off. Add to that 4 hours travel to and from work its a wonder I have any time to listen to music...:scratch:

Virtually giving your life up day in day out for nothing
Not being able to afford anything expensive
Getting a Wage packet where only a fraction is yours
Bills galore..
restricted to spare time

Not going To Work:
All the time in the world
Everything handed on a plate for you
Being technically better off than a worker
No CSA, virtually no bills to speak of apart from fuel.
House, car, holiday, flash designer clothing, Hi-Fi

I could go on.

I work for no-one except myself and thats the way I like it. As for benefits, I never claimed a penny, and would never like to live of £64 a week job seekers allowance.

Grass is always greener dude. I'd sooner have self respect and not have to worry if my benefits are gonna get cut from one week or the next.

I've never worked because of health reasons..If I'm truely honest I wish I did work and was good at something and also had a skill. I find my day to day life boring these days and as the weeks pass by music and sport are the only thing that keeps me going.

Therefore I am entitled to nothing, as my partner works. I am bored, and spend all the time I can trying to find work, any work. I was told recently that a job I applied for had 1700 applicants, for 4 jobs. I am sorry but anyone who says jobs are easy to find if you look hard enough is talking out of their arse, and believe me I know, since I am spending the equivalent of a full time job (and probably more) looking for work, so I should know.

So, I get NOTHING given to me on a plate, but I still have bills to pay that have been mine to pay for a while so my partner helps me out with that. I have no designer clothing, no car and a cheap hifi.

Everyone is not the same, but I know what you trying to say Andre :)

As for me, I now seriously wonder why I uphold the law. Why buy when you can steal and get a first-rate 'screaming leftie' barrister (at taxpayer cost) to claim in court that it’s only because the defendant didn’t get enough Corn Flakes / teddies / X-Factor when they were growing up!

They probably go on to claim that society is being grossly unfair to their client because on the one hand ‘society’ claims that CHAVs lack initiative and yet by running off with someone else’s’ 40” TV they quite clearly are demonstrating initiative – and fitness too!

Howard, trust me, you really do not want to see the inside of a prison :eek: What may be a holiday camp for those that have nothing out here is hell on earth for anyone with a modicum of intelligence :(

You keep hearing stories of sky TV & games consoles etc, it's all a load of crap! You keep hearing stories of prisoners lazing about all day, that's crap to as unless you have some kind of money injected into your prison account you'll be skint when it comes to getting a few necessities from the canteen...

You'll work hard for about £10 a week & the food is shite... Prisons are pretty much self supporting thought the governbent doesn't tell you this.. Prisoners make prisoners clothes, prisoners grow prisoners food & harvest it ;)

Unless you have been there you just believe all the bullcrap that you read on msn or hear on TV... It's hell, it'd totally mess your life up & that is what it did to me! Thankfully I didn't crack up, but i could see a lot of types of people who would..

I suspect that the ones to whom André refer are like some people in my town who know all the tricks in the book and can milk the system for all it's worth, whereas the regular, decent folk like Steve, who find them selves out of work for no fault of their own, struggle to even get the benefits to which they are entitled.

A few years ago, a friend and I attended a funeral and the wake afterwards that was held in my local. There were several people in there (not at the wake) who we both knew to be out of work - some of them having not worked for many years - playing cards (for money), drinking, picking bets out in the Racing Post etc. They do this every day from opening time until early evening. I believe they are all "on disability" (though one chap proved himself very sprightly when he realised he only had a couple of minutes to get to the bookies down the road to get his bet on before the off). As my friend and I were leaving to go back to work, he nudged me and said "you and me are paying for all this".

There are many more thousands like this around the country and, indeed, we are all paying for them.

The Scrubs, The Ville and Long Lartin. and i stood under the beam and on the trap door of Pentonville's execution chamber. The worst part about these visits was the food. Cabbage boiled until it was white, Smoked Haddock on Friday and so on..

For some people in society it is actually easier on the inside! When i was inside (Sept 97 - March 98) there was one guy who deliberately broke windows so he'd get xmas inside & a so called decent meal :eyebrows:

A lot get institutionalised & they like the regime as they have none outside. Others just don't give a crap as they carry on their business through visitors & much like Christopher Walken in "King Of New York" (though maybe on a smaller scale) carry on where they have left off once they are released :rolleyes:

All i'm saying is that it may appear to be a holiday camp for those inside, & for some it genuinely is! But for Joe average, your law abiding citizen it's the worst kind of hell you could imagine! I saw people getting battered about the head with PP9 batteries in a sock & other stuff that is too bl**dy aweful to mention... If you go on rule 43 (not sure what it's called now) along with the nonces for your own protection, then you'll be eating food that has been pissed in every day :rolleyes:

But the worst thing is you'll have absolutely no control over the remains of your life that is carrying on without you on the outside world... You'll get left behind & a whole lot of partners end up giving you the :wave: goodbye..

You know i just couldn't believe it when some heroin smoking cellmate (not my choice at all) turned round & said to me "if she doesn't wait for you she isn't worth having"...


Duh... Stupid, you messed it up!

By the way, i got sent down for dangerous driving... 160MPH up the A1 was kind of frowned upon, i can understand that & i did my time... I have seen numerous others pissed, chased by police, crashed, assaulting a police officer etc get less time than me :mental:

Just so you don't get the wrong idea to.. I'm 6' 2", 200lbs & know how to look after myself, yet prison was the worst kind of hell i could ever imagine.

Lets just say it's hell for you & me in there ;)

I think what a lot of people fail to realise is about "life" sentences, when they see someone getting out after say 16 years... What a life sentence means is that at any stage the lifer can be recalled to prison if they break the law in any way. I had a sentence of 1 year, but got out at 6 months. If i did anything wrong in the remaining 6 months i was on license then i'd be recalled to serve the rest of my sentence..

So in a way a life sentence is a life sentence, they can pull you back in if you mess up & i fully agree with it. A life sentence is until you die :cool:
