View Full Version : Interest check - Richard Allan A21
Probably should sell this wonderful amp as it is sitting idle awaiting suitable speakers which is unlikely to happen for a while.
Original Allan 10w version and all works very well. Cosmetically good with just some marks on woodwork. Can provide pics for interested parties. Pricewise not sure so any advice welcomed.
Thanks
Mervyn

Ok any takers at £200 - bargain for a rare classic !!
A rather tatty example went on eBay for £147 about a year ago.
£200 is a very fair price for an example in such good cosmetic condition.
My first solid state amplifier was a home made copy of the Sugden A21 power circuits (I knew someone who knew Jim Sugden, so was able to supply me with the PCBs components and transformer). It was fed by the Sugden C51 preamp.
When I used Quad ESL speakers, I found the power to be insufficient, so I up graded to the A51 power amp with double the power.
I still think there is nothing quite like class A for audio, despite the inefficiency and the fact that I now use Quad designs.
Best of luck with the sale Mervyn.

Yum Yum
Thanks Barry An A51 was on my wishlist at one time but they are rarer than Allans. Apparently Sugden say the harder you drive the amps the better they perform.
