Ok here goes. A sad sale but I'd rather let someone make use of this. I have for sale my Beresford 7520 DAC. It had had the Wolfson WM8716 DAC chip fitted by Tirna. It has also been fitted with the Wima and Rubycon caps and MuRata regs fitted as shown in the pictures. These were supplied by HighFidelityGuy and also fitted by Tirna. Included is the Caiman PSU.
The op-amps fitted are the OPA2132 and an AD862. Also included for your own preference are 2xNE5532, 2xLM4562NA, 1xLME49720HA and a few others fitted to the adaptor boards. I can't see the numbers on the top of the chips!!

The DAC itself is in very good condition and I'll include an optical cable to get you going.

I'm not really sure what it is worth to be honest. I'm not wanting silly money but would happy to accept whatever it's current value(?) is. I guess somewhere between £200 and £175? If you're anywhere near the North East of Scotland then you're quite welcome to come and have a listen.

I have a Monarchy Audio Upsampling DIP (Mark 1 - 240v) if anyone may be interested?

Anymore questions / pictures please let me know.

Are you downsizing or moving up? Looks a good bargain with all those mods. I'll take the LME49720HA off you if you wish.

Hi Jim, just out of interest how much are you looking for the Monarchy DIP? :)

Stan,

More than happy to send the 49720 to you. I'll get it in the post to you in the next few days.

Edit: I got the Naim DAC around 18 months ago and have had that in the system since. I thought I would do something with the 7520 so kept hold of it but unfortunately it's been gathering dust mostly due to work commitments, so it's time for an Autumn clean out.

I paid £130, second-hand from a dealer, for it a couple of years ago so somewhere around £100 I think. It's pretty much in mint condition. (It's also the up sampling version)

Do you happen to know if the upsampling can be bypassed? I'll check out the Monarchy site to see, though it probably doesn't matter at the end of the day...

Name a price with shipping ;) Can you take Paypal?

Yes, it's capable of being set at 48KHz or 96KHz...

The one I have is the DIP Upsampler. The unit between the DIP Combo and the DIP Classic.

There's a jumper inside the unit to go between 48 and 96 but I'm not entirely sure if you can disable the upsampling.

Would you be happy with £110 all in by PayPal Gift with either courier or RMSD?

Most excellent, i have just spotted that it has an AES/EBU input! That has saved me some hassle ;) I had to wind a balanced to unbalanced transformer on a ferrite bead (fitted inside a phono plug) to connect to my older DIP...

Well i guess this one will be going in the main system & the old one in system 2 now i look at it.

Apologies folks but I'm going to be out of the loop for a week or so. I'll try to answer any questions as I can but it will be next week before I can ship this if anyone is interested in the mean time.

How does the Wolfson chip upgrade make the beresford sound in comparison with the naim dac?

It's been a while since I compared the two so I'm going on memory. I think I did some posts nearer the time I got the Naim DAC if you want to search for them in a moment of insomnia.

The Naim sounded more refined and balanced I seem to remember. The Beresford in the Caiman spec is certainly no slouch though. In my opinion you have to go up a fair few levels of price and listening to get "better" than it.

The beauty of the Beresford DAC is that you have the a simple option to tailor its sound, using the op amps etc, to suit your taste.
