Burnt-in boredom?

I just had a thought, well there is a first time for everything! But basically I was thinking .......you know the "thrill" you get when you install something new into your system, and you play every cd/record in your collection, but then a few weeks down the line the enthusiasm wears off...................well......anyone think it could be the reverse of the "burning in" theory, and that some folk prefer the sound of a new bit of kit, and when it has burnt in, get a little bit bored with the sound..........?

Well in keeping with my avatar...'So what you gonna do when the novelty has gone?', as Ian Curtis once sang ;)

You get an improvement in sound quality from somewhere (tweaks, new kit or whatever), which makes listening to your collection an exciting and new experience...then you become accustomed to it as the norm, then you look for an improvement and the whole cycle goes round again.

This doesn't mean to say that I don't listen to my music otherwise, but one's always more enthused just after a hi-fi upgrade or some-such.

I've just got my main speakers back after having an issue with tweeter response balance, one was +3dB higher then normal, and now that they're back, and sounding better than ever, particularly in comparison to the stand ins I've been using whist they were being fixed, I'm in hi-fi heaven...as you said going through my favourites with a big grin on my face, it's fun whilst it lasts...:)

Another good reason for upgrading one thing at a time ;)

When I was in my late teens and early twenties females had the same effect on me. But they looked nothing like a box...

Is that what you might call a "vintage box" .............. aghhhh .. memories .... they are nearly all smooth and shiny now ... :lolsign:

I can't see anything in the 'burning in' theory in regards of cables but in equipment that's 'from new' I can, saying that... marginal is the word I would use.

I would say that your mood makes more of a difference on how you perceive sound so yeah... being bored of a certain type of sound can come in to play I'd say.
