Is there any advantage to using a Neutrik Speakon XLR type power lead connector plug and socket over a normal kettle lead plug and socket, other than locking aspect ?

Do you mean for mains power? I doubt it, although XLRs have a tighter pin connection, they have a smaller surface area. In any case, can XLRs be safely used for mains? I thought they were low voltage only.

Speakons are absolute sods to wire up in my experience.

Chris - yes, I know the Speakon connector. My REL sub used to have one.

That termination is legal as its used on the Isotek Titan and others but not that good conductivity wise I guess as it won't be plated to prevent oxidation, I may be mistaken of course.
