up for sale this cartridge i aint used it in a year and was working great up until then. avarage cartridge so you gonna get the basic sound price is about £15 altogether not bad for a spare if you need one eamil me ith any questions.

It's a goodie this one, just not known as well as the OM Pro upon which I think it's based. You can easily upgrade the stylus to any of the 500 series too, as I believe the bodies to be identical - mine started life as a 510, the stylus was ripped off, so I replaced the latter with the GT - it'll give you all the treble the Stantons take away and keep the bass ;)

That stanton cart you mension on my radiogram post i have one of them. do you think i will match a rega RB250 arm :scratch:. if its a good'on i should sell quick

The Stanton 500 is a fine durable model and great for mid-line 1960's decks like the garrards I'm fond of. Of course it would work in an RB250, but you really need the littlle plastic decoupling mounts it originaly comes with to electrically isolate the metal body and mount from the headshell. The bit between mount and shell is very thin indeed, so shouldn't affect the sonics unduly.

It's lively, it's raw, which is what "we" love about these cartridges so much I think, and the tracking is secure enough I think.. Sometimes, I think vinyl needs a bit of "waking up," and cartridges like this do it in spades. Just don't expect the gentle grace of, say, a 540 or OM40 :)

Thanks Dave, that sounds alright to me, your recco's has been tops as proven by your info on the Quad 33/303 combo to which i susequently bought.:)....
..talk of 540 and OM40 are mumble jumble to me i am afraid so i am going into this blind.:scratch:

Well done - I hope you like it :)

The 540 and OM40 are the top midels of the 500 and OM series and offer great refinement and delicasy for the bucketloads the styli cost. the 500/GT body is more solid I feel and better suited to "our" kind of use, whereas the original use for the OM was in a very low mass arm I think.

Thanks Dave, as always most useful advice, will take that on board if i want to change the flavour of my GT in future.:thumbsup:
