Diy record cleaning machine used with vac

Heres a few pics if anyone is thinking of having a go total cost £40 ish,

i would
use a deeper sandwich box from wilkinson, making the plywood box deeper to except it if i did one again just means you dont have to empty it so ofton,

sticky back velvet from ebay top covered in it aswell made of aluminium
use 90deg 22mm waist tank fittings use a piece of 22mm plastic pipe with
slot for the vacuming covered in velvetine other connection is for vac
liquid ends up in sanwich box empty when full .

Sorry, I may be being a bit thick, but from your photos, it's not obvious to me what's going on here.
Which part is in contact with the disc to do the sucking through? It looks like it's sticking up in the air, without any obvious way of rotating it 90 deg. to touch the playing surface.

So does this need a Wet/dry vac to provide the suction, or will any regular vac do the job?

By the way it looks really smart & I quite fancy having a go at making one of these for myself.

The wond sticking up sucks the crap off.It swing up out the way when washing the record and the wet brush system also swings out when sucking dry.Looks very good.Any vac will do as water is collected in tub in the machine.How about making one for me lol

Yes you are right it's sticking up. I've used another 90 deg bend, when you feel that the record is now clean, you turn on the vacuum manually, then push the bit sticking up down onto the record and it sucks all the liquid from the record, into the lunchbox. The liquid, being heavy, falls to the bottom of the lunchbox empty when full, no liquid goes into the vacuum. It's a normal cylinder type vacuum I use, a Miele, not a wet type.

I have a lathe which makes things easy for me but not impossible for others,

you know what the ref collection gives you to put papers and old tins ect in
one blue and the others green turn it upside down and mount motor and
luchbox inside same thing put a switch on the front, just need a shaft to
clamp onto the motor shaft 8mm grub screw through the side 6mm thread
into the top and some large washers and a knob from a kitchen unit, you
make the wond from 22 waist pipe cut to lenth fit one end into a 90deg bend and
then block the other end with something slot it down the lenth angle grinder
the slot needs to be about 4mm use two velvette strips each side see ebay

Thanks Phil for all the info, the one bit I'm still unclear of is how you have made the motor shaft the right diameter for the record spindle, a pic would be really good just so I can get a good idea of what's required.

I take it once the spindle is the right diameter you just use something like a Michell record clamp to keep the record from slipping.

I don't have a lathe but I've got a pillar drill and some taps so I was just wondering how difficult it would be.

Hello again moko, some more pics its easy with a lathe, washer fits on shaft
sticky velvet on record side, put record in position then next big washer
velvet face down screw down knob all this is in stainless but aluminium is
loads better to work with you could even put o rings in place on the outside
of the washers to seal the record details from liquid,but be carfull and this
dont happen. cheers phil

I think I might have a simpler solution to your top clamp part as I have one of these Michell Record clamps (it screws onto the record spindle)

It's just how to make the bottom part somehow I haven't seen washers that size in Homebase:) And then its a question of attaching it to the motor spindle. Did you turn that part on your lathe I was it something simple you had knocking around?

Yes david i made them on the lathe, i like your record clamp idea, the shaft on
the motor is 8mm with a flat so i start with a piece of say 15mm solid bar
put an 8mm hole in one end, then put a 4mm grub screw thread into side to
tighten down on the flat, thats one end dealt with the other end has to be a certain size in lenth then turn down to record spindle size for your clamp,
then a large washer in say 5mm aluminium to fit the record size spindle.
