View Full Version : 24-hour Clock?

Is it possible to view posting times in 24-hour mode rather than am/pm? Damned if I can find the setting.

It can only be changed at on a Global basis, not via the UserCP... so unless we get a stampede of requests to change it for everyone via the Admin controls you'll have to keep an eye on those pesky Ante Meridiem, Post Meridiem abbreviations!

No? Oh, ok then.

:) Twould suit me too. Could there not be a choice for those wanting the 24-hour clock format?

John

Unfortunately it's a setting that is done on a forum-wide basis; it's not configurable at a User or Usergroup level.

A 36 hours clock would give us some much needed extra time though to fiddle with sound setups, so that could also a viable option?

Genius! Now why didn't I think of that! If this catches on you'll be a very rich man. :lolsign:

It's like quoting your age in base 16. You *think* you've gained something...

HighFidelityGuy
14-09-2011, 19:52
Unless you're under the age of 10, because then you really don't gain anything. ;)

Only thing is, we now appear to have lost the 'AM' or 'PM' indication after the time....

Isn't that what a 24 hour clock's supposed to do ?
I've never come across 23:42 am before.

Lol... No, that would be 23.42pm, 01.01am, etc...

Just because we've now got a 24-clock, I see no reason to lose the 'am' or 'pm' distinction after it. For me, it looks incomplete.

Any reason why this has happened, Nick? :)

Marco.

Marco - Chris is right, the the 24 hour clock doesn't use AM or PM - if you've seen it written that way elsewhere, it's wrong!

AM / PM refers to the two 12 hour divisions (before midday and after midday) within the 12 hour clock: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-hour_clock

Sorry!

Marco
18-09-2011, 07:09
No worries. I just think it looks incomplete that way, but it's no big deal :)

Chris, I apologise - I thought Marco was playing the fool with his am/pm thing, but it seems not!!! Rather startled by that, actually...

Marco
18-09-2011, 09:14
Lol - I think I've just got so used to seeing 'am' or 'pm' written after the time, that now it's not there, something seems missing, that's all!

Marco.

P.S For reference, the digital clock radio in our bedroom still displays 'am' or 'pm' next to the 24-hour clock time.

Do you have the option of setting the clock up to display a 12 hour clock ?
That might explain the otherwise superfluous am/pm indication.

Marco
18-09-2011, 13:16
Yup, dude, so that would indeed explain why :)

Thing is, I've got used to having the am/pm thing going on, and it's the only digital clock in the house! :eyebrows:

So would I. The whole of society is now dependent on them, or so it seems. But then, if there were no computers there would not be AoS as we know it! So really not such a bad thing, eh.

John :)

John, I completely share your sentiments on both counts.

The whole of society is now dependent on them, or so it seems.

Indeed, and more's the pity. I don't like becoming dependent on *anything*, least of all computers!

I see computers as an occasional necessary evil, and so only entertain their use, and have them in my life, when there is absolutely no other choice.

Marco.
