View Full Version : In-line speaker switch?

Anyone know of a simple, quality solution? I want to alternate between two amps serving one pair of speakers. I'm thinking of short cables from the amps to an in-line switch, then a single run to the speakers.
The cable is quite thick and solid core, so needs meaty connections. The only thing I can find is a switched coax splitter, which I could use but would prefer better connections.

Stan Beresford makes this:

which, I think will do what you want and I would expect to be good quality.

I have recommended the TC-7220 many times to customers and everyone appears to like it.

Have a read of Neil (Dalek's) review on his audio site - Adventures in High Fidelity Audio - if you need any more convincing! ;)

That's the kiddie - perfect. Thanks guys :)

I know I'll only regret it if I go at this half-cock. I have a second pair of speakers that I would like to use occasionally also.

I love this site! You just have to think of the outlay it causes as a membership fee.

Steve, do you use a preamp? If it has two sets of RCA outs, just take one set to the other amp.

Hi Ali

Yes, I have a preamp with two sets of RCA outputs - which gets me the same source to two amps but I would still need another speaker cable run from the amps, or to keep swapping the cables. The idea is one amp for music but another for movies.

Basically, I've acquired a SET amp :eyebrows:, which I'll post on a seperate thread, but the Mini-T is more powerful  and more dramatic for films.

Answers one question - the Mini-T does have SET-like qualities in terms of transparency, speed and musicality when augmented by a sub to boost the body of the sound and when driving efficient speakers. I think I've become a SET/Horns addict when I wasn't looking!

Haha, that's what I'll be doing ultimately, using the Golds for tv and films, and using the direct coupled GM70 amps for the statics for music (when they are built) They are push pull, but don't sound it, at least going by the breadboard prototype. Mind you, they don't sound like SE either, in fact they don't sound like anything, just a wide open window to the music.

Get the post up about the SE amp, you've got me curious!
