Not everyone is that handy. I can solder and desolder but I wouldn't dream of cocking about with an amp like that. If I wanted it sorted I would have to get someone who does it for a living - and live with the expense.

I agree this is a lovelly amp I would not risk this on such a beautiful amp

'Scuse me for asking, but do ALL the caps want replacing? You know, there is a saying that I find difficult enough to follow that says "if it ain't wrong, don't fix it." I do appreciate the supply caps may be a bit tired, but in those days the designers of top model products tended to over-specify these things I think (the quality was often better than "UK" commercial grade caps in the 70's too) and they don't seem to suffer the way a 1970's Quad or Radford does/did in the first fifteen years of use for example.

The Crown amps I use are nearly forty years old and although I replaced the supply caps with much larger ones, the original Mallory ones which came out all measured well within spec and had no bulging whatsoever.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do and please let us know if you find a sympathetic engineer. I used to know an excellent one, but he lost faith in the noughties when everyone was chucking out their old stereo gear and not servicing it, replacing it with new AV stuff and to my knowledge is now retired :(

I was mainly thinking a complete service. The amp is in really great condiction but this would give another 30 years use
My understanding is that the caps only have a limited life spam and this is a 40 year old amp
I probarly will not be keeping it myself as the amp has far to much power for my own system, but would like to get it up to its full glory before I sell
