Hi, Im shaun from Scotland i am fairly new to all this . i have a reg a planar 3 with denon dl 110 , and Nad amp ,Nad cd player and PP2 phono stage . acoustic energy floor standing speakers . with Qed silver anniversary bi.wire . Qed silver interconnects. I have now got the upgrade fever.
Welcome to AoS Shaun,
Nice little system you have there. What are your tastes in music? I assume your music collection is entirely vinyl.
As to upgrading - well that could be a very slippery slope. We just love spending other people's money, but we have a lot of very knowledgable members here, some are retired or semi-retired dealers, all of whom will be able to offer you good advice.
So just let us know what it is about your present system you think could be improved and I'm sure you will get plenty of sound (no pun intended) advice.
Welcome again
Regards

i love all music 60's , 70's 80's 90's(really like)and i also like a lot of electronic music . I'm not a jazz man , just can't dig it.classical yes . so i suppose i like most stuff except the stuff thats in the charts just now which is complete rubbish. I'm looking to buy a michell tecnodec at the moment unsure if i should mod up my rb300 or buy a tecnoarm.

Hello Shaun & here's warm welcome to the Art of Sound from me.
Brilliant that you've found us here - it's a great place stuffed to the gunnels with some of the most knowledgeable and experienced people in hi-fi.
It's great to see someone with such a wide taste in music - I think you'll fit in well here on that score.
Here's a few predictions:
There'll be a few folks along in just a short while who'll tell you from experience how to make a massive improvement to your system for a very modest outlay.
You will be sceptical
You will be very grateful when you try what they suggest!
Welcome once again!
Cheers
That's your queue Alex, Dave and all the other past members of the SA owners club!

hi thanks, looking forward to hearing all the advice.
Well, Shaun - firstly, a big thank you for joining AoS, and for introducing yourself.
Now, as Chris has eluded to, from personal experience, the biggest improvement you can make to your current setup is I am afraid to dump the QED Silver Anniversary cabling... I know, I know - What HiFi? gave it award after award after award - but really, and I'm sorry to have to tell you this - it is quite rubbish! I too bought metres of the stuff - well, it's won award after award after award, so it had to be good, didn't it? And it's got silver in it! But the truth is, in most systems, it is easily improved by something less expensive. First off, I doubt you're gaining much if anything by bi-wiring - I'm sure most people would agree. Simply make up some small "jumpers" to connect the two sets of terminals, and run just one length twixt amp and speakers.
DSJR (Dave R) pounced on me when I joined the forum two years or so ago, and dumping the QA was one of the best things I ever did - here are a couple of Dave's current recommendations http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380337531591?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_2290wt_1139 or the "hifi" version: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fisual-Super-Pearl-2-5mm-Speaker-Cable-White-/380169878365?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item5883e3fb5d#ht_1600wt_1139.
As for interconnects - well, I'll leave others to help out with suggestions there, and dependant upon how much (if anything!) you'd be willing to spend, there will be plenty of recommendations - but the speaker cable will make a big difference - I promise! (In fact, as long as it is not more than 10 metres you need, I'll even give you a money back guarantee - if you buy either of the cables above and don't prefer it to the QED SA, I'll buy it off you for what you paid... See - money where my mouth is!)
Seriously though, please don't be offended by me - but many of us have moved away from the SA and not regretted it - and we can't all be wrong. Can we!?
Enjoy the forum. :)

thanks alex for the advice, to be totally honest somebody told me about the speaker wire not that long ago and i never thought about it again till you mentioned it. consider it changed , also i have jumpers that i got with the speakers so will put them back on as soon as the cable arrives. thanks shaun
Hi Shaun,
You'd be better off replacing the jumpers that came with the speakers with a few cms of the same cable you choose to connect the speakers to the amplifier.

Look forward to hearing how you get on with it Shaun - and of course, the bill if it doesn't work out for you!
